American Studies studier eh? I like that

Yeah, I think there's three of us on the whole of TSR, you're the first person I've seen who's doing straight American Studies though...are you doing the course with International Study or are you just doing the normal three years?

I'm applying to Nottingham for American Studies, really appeals to me. I am a bit worried though that due to the high popularity of Nottingham I won't get in as my AS grades aren't exactly outstanding. I got:

Media Studies: A
Physical Education: B
History: C
English Language (now dropped): C

What did you two get

I got ABBD, but the requirements for straight AS are ABC/BBB - so as long as your predicted grades are the same as or around that, you should be OK

Course chosen: Film & Television Studies and Music
Other choices: don't know yet, all the other universities with that course I've never heard of
Random info about yourself or your course: Studied 1 year Scandinavistics, Literature and History and 2 years Law in Munich, now beginning my third year Journalism & Communication Sciences in Vienna and don't like it at all. 700-900 people in my year and nothing like what I thought studying was like :frown:
Instead of finishing one of my studies I made a lot of music and am very interested in song-writing, arrangement, mixing and music production in general. Worked as a script author, operator and moderator for German TV and because I'm already 24, they'd call me "mature student" :p:

From everything I have heard and read about Nottingham and the course, I think it would be perfect for me, but it's hard to say, if they would make me an offer, because I don't really know how they measure me as a mature student and with my German Abitur 2.0

Someone perhaps heard good things about film & tv at Notts? Politics and Eco is all they seem to talk about ..

Probably a tad too early yet (forgive me, I'm bored :p:), but I thought it'd be nice to have a place for people who are thinking about applying to Nottingham for 2010 to talk about what they want to do, like the '09 thread.

If you want you can fill in the details here as a way of breaking the ice - I'll start off:

Name: Emma
Course chosen: American Studies and History joint honours
Other choices: Manchester, Sussex, Leicester and UCLAN
Random info about yourself or your course: There's an option to go to the US or Canada for a year if I get 55-60% or more in the first year and first semester of the second year.

with a course choice like this, i'm surprised Warwick isnt shortlisted?

Also, knowing some of the American/Canadian studies tutors first hand, i can say it's a great department.
Reply 59
Hmm, I never really considered Warwick, it does sound like a great department from what I've just read of it...but I got a D in the AS I've dropped and I don't have a language GCSE, so I don't think I'd get an offer :o:
