Just have lots and lots of CVs at the ready and as soon as you arrive give them to restaurants, bars, clubs, shops and whatever in Nottingham. You should get called from the restaurants, bars, pubs etc as it's more casual staff there who want more people when students are there and less when they're not - so it works out for both of you!

Also, I assume you've got a job in a shop already if you're looking for a transfer so let them know you'll be able to work at xmas and this'll hopefully guarantee you some work then.

A decent bet would be to try to get a job on campus, at Mooch or something. My housemate worked there last year and I think the hours were pretty flexible etc.
I work with an agency, care working- really good and flexible, for when/where i want!

I've also been thinking about jobs...before starting in September I have been working as an IT analyst for almost 2 years. Do you think there would be work available within the uni? I'm not sure how often jobs appear within the uni itself.

Jobs, as in general jobs. Just keep an eye out, many jobs become available through your school(s) to be guides on open days or as representatives. Also, many jobs will come up with the union, such as working in Mooch and helping in the SU elections.

I was thinking more 'specialist' jobs. From my background working in IT I was thinking network/application administration, deskside support or service desk work etc.

I've just got myself a job in the bar Mooch, which is part of the Students Union. These jobs are really hard to come about, and I only got it because I attended a recruitment day which was run by the students union for jobs in the union. Now, this is the only way to get a job in the bars there, and these only really run at the end of the year. This is for jobs in the bars, shops, and other university services. The halls bars have a very long waiting list, and you can no longer apply directly through the hall.

I've had a job all through uni. I tended to avoid the typical student jobs e.g. student bars, clubs, shops etc. Join agencies, get your cv updated and apply for any jobs that you could possibly do. You'll probably get a lot of rejections, maybe a few interviews and a couple 2nd interviews but you'll probably get a job finally.
