You're grades are really good - you could get an unconditional if you apply to Bath/Bristol again next year, possibliy with some resits, but you've got to weigh up your options for a Gap year (work? travel? both?) with a place at university next month. What do you really want to go for?

I got ABBB and i did not get a place in BathUniversity or Bristol University.
After considering Clearing, not many places were left, so i applied to UWE.
I'm want to do Mechanical engineering.

I;m i doing to the right thing? or is it better to wait until next year and apply for a descent university?

If you want to go to Bath or Bristol you will more than likely have to do resits, and even then you may be at a disadvantage as unis want qualifications to be gained within 2 years not 3, there is expected to be even more people applying next year for University than there were this year due to the recession. All I can recomend is you phone the universities you are interested in applying for and see if they would accept ABBB.

If you don't think you'll be happy going to UWE because you don't think it's prestigious enough, it may cause you to be unhappy in your place and not put your full effort in, which again would be a waste of both finances and time on your behalf.

You've got to decide, as said before, what you will do in this year and whether you will have the motivation to go to university after taking a year out of education and whether you truly believe you will be able to get into Bath/Bristol next year. (With ABBB you will deffinately be able to get into "better" Unis than UWE, but Bath and Bristol are both VERY competitive).

A very thorough answer. and you are right! Bath and Bristol require AAA to get a place, which is only achievable by resits.
But im very disencouraged by the resists because i will have to spend a yet another year with my A levels.

I have phoned all the Universities i wanted to go to , but they are all full. The ones which are left are either in Scotland or London!
So i guess the UWE is the only best choice in my situation.
Thanks again for your post . + REP for you:wink:

You going to UWE Too? that's cool.

Same situation for me
i couldn't get into bristol to do maths engineering with BABE they wanted ABB so i accepted UWE as my insurance since its actually not that bad a uni (obviously bristol bath have prestige) and i didnt want to resit the year, re apply on ucas and maybe still not get in, and if youre doing mechanical engineering then youre in one of UWE's best faculties, hence why they are building the really fast car and top gear do alot of testing there

I definately wouldn't say UWE is rubbish anyway!

I'm in the same situation when it comes to prestige, I keep thinking that UWE is rubbish, but it's probably not! Just because these other unis are old and have a redbrick status doesn't nessecarily mean they're right for you. With UWE, you get the amazing nightlife and culture of Bristol without the snobby Oxbridge rejects
Why are people saying UWE is rubbish ??
I havent been to an open day yet (its next month) but the uni came across very well in its prospectus and website, i have high hopes for it!

Is there any particular reason why a couple folks are calling it "rubbish" ??

It looked rly good from what i saw :frown: :s-smilie:
I was strongly thinking of going there next september, there or Hallam in Sheffield.

I also thought UWE was rubbish and then i went up there they were the most helpful uni, have really good facitilities and the campus was lovely. At the end of the day isn't matter about where you obtain you qualification its about how you use it and how much you like the uni itself. I'm starting at UWE in Jan and honestly think its the best decision I have made.

UWE is not rubbish - did none of you see the Top Gear with the rocket car?? That was all UWE. In fact Airbus give some great stuff to both the aerospace and engineering departments and UWE has great labs and experts. I think some of you need to read up on universities before applying or insulting them, being a student ambassador I know about the different faculties and engineering, aerospace and architecture are all increasingly great.

However I do always stress if youre unsure about a uni - and especially if you havent gone to an open day - you should defer or visit not just plump for a place because its there. There is no shame in taking a year out and finding out what you really want to do or where you really want to go and if you use it right the experience you gain during that time makes you more employable and ahead of your peers.

yeah I am applying there too for Business, mainly because of Bristol:p:
But why are some people saying that it's rubbish?
I heard Frenchay is a horrible place to live in, so is there another close place near UWE?

As a UWE student I can safely say that it is a rubbish university. The students are great and the lecturers are fantastic, but those in charge have no ambition to turn it into a great university. Without that ambition UWE will never be anything but a bottom half table university. That being said, if you don't mind the rubbish campus you may even enjoy it there, as I've mentioned the lecturers are fantastic and if you're really driven a university isn't going to affect your prospects in the future. A slacker from Bristol is miles away from a perfect student at UWE.

Does one year really matter? If you have your heart set on Bristol/Bath then going to UWE is only going to depress you. You now have an extra year to build up your results and revise extremely hard to get the results you need. Before you make your decision have a walk around the campus and talk to some real students taking your course and ask them about it. You'll find that at the open days you'll be fed lies about your faculty, only to realise that you'll be spending your three years in awful rooms and away from the nice equipment they like to tout. It's a general rule for any university to actually talk to some students to find out how it actually feels to be a student there.
What campus are you at though ?

I'd be living at and studying at Glenside.
And half the time i'd be away on NHS placements,

at the poster above the above - there's tonnes of places to live when studying at UWE other than at frenchay
