A Good Hair Salon in London? (That isn't stupidly priced either)

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good hair salons in London that isn't too expensive? On a low budget at the moment, waiting for the student finance to come through :frown:

I've visited many hairdressers in my time... Toni & Guy, Ginger Group and tbh, what they charge just does not reflect what they do

I'm looking to have half head highlights done.. But from what I've seen its around £80  oh how I wish I had hairdresser links!

Help a sistah out please?

Let me see what I can do, which part of London in particular are you looking at?

la mode hair design in colindale, its really good. all the hairdressers and workers are malaysian/chinese but they knew how to deal with MY hair, which is thick and quite curly. i think they're excellent and i get my haircuts for about 13 quid. phone up and ask about the highlights you want, heres the address and everything:

Lover's Knot: All areas except East London... Don't really spend much time there!

Rimipie: Thanks for the suggestion! I got thick, wavy hair so that is perfect. Also, I'm in North West London so that's good for me

Ermm...i have some 50% off vouchers for Rush hair if you want? (Refer a friend).

I've been to the Chiswick and Guildford salons and quite like them.
I'm intrested in this thread! I need a new hairdresser and fast - everywhere charges too much for a poor student like me :frown:
I was also going to suggest la mode as riimple did. Basically avoid all hair dressors in NW and E. London.

Hey what vouchers do you have! I've been tempted to get some colour done at Rush! I'm not sure what their rates are usually like though? Is it really expensive?

It says '50% off any one service' so you'll be able to get the colours done. I'm not sure on their prices actually, last time i went it was £28 with 10% but can't remember which level stylist i got (:o:), and mens and womens prices will probably be quite different anyway. Pop in and ask them for a pricelist and gimme a shout if you want the vouchers.

For the sake of clarity i'll point out that i get 50% off too if i refer a friend.

Toni & Guy academy by Tottenham Court Road station do wash+cut+dry for £5. male and female.
you need to ring and pre-book though - 020 7836 0606

I think there's a seperate academy for colours though - I'll see if i can find the details...

edit: The one I mentioned above does colours too IIRC - your best bet would be to ring and check.

That sounds amazing! Cos I think colour and cut would be £90 otherwise - maybe even more.
Is there any particular day it needs to be used on?

I'm going for a lighter brown/dark blonde as I just want a change really! Nothing too drastic might go for highlights instead. I've been darker before so I want to see what happens when I go lighter!
You can get it done for free by trainee hairdressers at Alan D just off Oxford Street, nothing can go wrong because the teachers keep a close watch on them doing it. My boyfriend was trained there and he didnt mess anyones hair up. All you have to do is ring them or pop in and make an appointment or if their not busy you can just go straight in.

I recommend Henny's Hair. Its based in Kensington, on Stratford Road.. really friendly staff, great selection of products and very good value for money.

You can check out their website at http://www.hennyshair.com
I've always used T&G and think they're the best but the service in OXford Circus is getting quite bad.

Was thinking of going Scwartzkopf.

I booked Mahogany, anyone uses them?
I recommend visiting a hairdressing salon in Shepherds Bush. There is a remarkable professional who is going to make your hair look perfect.

As an introduction, please read the following article in which you'll find more info about the salon.

" I didn’t imagine it in this way, but it is good that I imagined anything at all. It means that my head works.

London changes as the time passes. The first time I went to London about twenty years ago. I was terrified by its pursuit and largeness. I was terrified by largeness of risks and now there is largeness of possibilities.

The world changes. I have changed I am prettier but I can’t say that about London. Generally London is said that people can wear there what they want and nobody will pay attention to it. But it isn’t the truth. I pay attention to people’s outfits. What’s more I admire people’s outfits.

But people don’t pay attention to my outfits. Some people think that London is a Mecca for people interested in fashion. That is true but in the streets we can see both people who wear fashionable outfits and outfits connected with ethnic groups. It adds variety but also astonishes. We work at Shepherd’s Bush it is located near the border with Hammersmith. In Shepherd’s Bush we go from the underground station and we see six hairdressing salons for Black men and ours is the next it is also for Black men. It is located on the border of districts so we are also involved there. I couldn’t imagine what services offer hairdressing salons for Black people. I didn’t realize how it looks… Hairdressers added artificial hair to one woman during many hours. The hair ran out in the evening the shop where they could get it was closed and they couldn’t buy more hair so she had to come back the next day and hairdressers added hair again. What’s more they do plaits and all head plaits are in the equal rows.

I was astonished by a client who came with a little girl and Kay. The owner of the hairdressing salon put her hair in curlers, did perm and let her go home. I have to ask next time why was this so….

In Hammersmith there are many Poles most of them emigrated here after the Second World War so they have been living here for many years and they aren’t very characteristic. But in the shopping centers we can easily recognize Poles because most of them wear streaks. I don’t understand it.

I thought that when people live in the center of the fashion of the world they wear the most fashionable outfits and hairdos but now I am able to imagine that there are hairdressing salons where hairdressers have knowledge and trends from the first wave of emigration. Old fashion, old trends and time passes…

I wouldn’t like it to happen.

There are so many wonderful hairdos. I don’t demand any brave colors but if somebody chooses a streak, she should choose delicate colors rather than contrasting strips. At my hairdressing salon in Poznań I almost don’t do this. Of course sometimes I have different colors but shades should be similar. Contrast is trendy as well but shades should be intense. Women who work in the hairdressing salon in Bleach do steaks in intense shades. They put it directly on hair but it isn’t hair dye, it is something like a toner. I recommend their work you can see it on: http://bleachlondon.co.uk We can see that there are streaks in many hairdos but it gives a different effect. Of course not everyone can wear it and I am aware that many women will faint after watching it and they will lose the thread of my article.

I show it because I want to make you aware how much the fashion has changed during last seven years. Who doesn’t believe it should look at their price list! I was wondering why polish women in England go to Polish hairdressers. And I found the answer. They are the opposition to English brave hairdressers. Polish women need more peaceful and reliability. It puzzled me. I have to admit that in Poznań I do more reliable hairdos. A woman who has it done gives an impression of having real, better hair. But on the other hand I have a client who wants blue strips. So I think that a secret of a good hairdressing is diversity and I want to achieve it in London. "
