Gah, this thread is making me realise how much I need to work on my 2K; all in due course.

Reply 22

Last year did 6.57 @ 5'9 64kg. Hope to be faster now.

Reply 23

7.16 was my best (at around 75kg). stopped rowing not long after that

Reply 24

6:38 at 90kg. Got lots to improve on still though so no slowing down.

Reply 25

I've only just started rowing 2k and my time was 8:37.

It could be a lot worse

My pb was 6:24 over the summer at 78kg. The key was to rate really high like 36 strokes per minuite and to do lots of training. At the moment id be lucky to get sub 6:30

Hmmm haven't done a 2k since July, when I got my pb of 6:50, at 5'7 and 68kg.

Generally we're doing 5k pieces at the moment, got a pb last week of 17:55 (ave split 1:47), still 5'7 and 68kg - very very happy with that

Hoping by the summer I will be able to get my 2k down to 6:40 at the very least.

Im sure you could go sub 6:40 now if you rated pretty high and went balls to the floor.

I though that too and it proved surprisingly hard to get below 6:40, in fact I haven't managed to do it yet. I can't live through the middle 1000. Got no problem starting and finishing at 1:35-36 but when it gets to about 1300m to go I get scared of blowing up and not being able to finish and go down to about 1:45.

Depends on how close the shark behind me is.

I take the whole 40/30/20/10 approach. 800metres at 1:41, 600m at 1:40, 400m at 1:39, 200m at all out spring (sub 1:38). Add some teammates to scream at you too.

And pendleton is HOT in your sig, thanks for that.

Indeed:yep:

As for the 40/30.. strategy that's fine once you get below the halfway mark but I have the biggest crisis at 1300 or 1200 to go. Especially when you have teammates shouting. I don't want to burn out and risk not being able to carry on, or going to 2:00 for a few sec's so I hold back a little until there is light at the end of the tunnel:smile:

40/30/20/10 lets you lighten up a little (if that) for that horrible middle 1k, especially if you get a fast start you can just let the time come slowly back up to 1:41 avg.

Whatever works for you is best though! I get jacked on tonnes of caffeine pills so im really buzzing before I take my turn at it. Probably doesn't help but gets me by lol

you need to attack the 2km from start to finish, slowing down out of fear of blowing up is the last thing you want to do as once your off the pace its demoralising.

Maybe yes, but with my training schedule as it is I really don't have any time to fit in a productive 2k test for myself! Ergo tests every Mon and Weds evening, and water sessions Tues and Thurs evenings, with circuits afterwards on Thursdays, then more water sessions on Saturdays and Sundays 8am-1pm. Just no opportunities!!

We'll see though!

2 erg tests a week???

Well 'tests' as in continuous asessment. Some are more important than others.

Monthly 5k test which are key to monitor improvements in performance and are the main ones used for crew selection.

But Mondays we do 2 x 20min alternating R22-24 (4 min break in between)

Wednesdays we do mainly 1 x 30min alternating R20-24. But sometimes we do 6 x 1500m Free Rate (4 min break in between each).

We also do a quick weight circuit after ergos.

Is it good to be a sophomore and pull a 6:30:19 for a 2k?
