Best fake tan?

I'm going to a wedding and my dress is quite short so i'd like some fake tan to give my pale legs a bit of colour. I'd rather get it done at a salon than do it myself coz im useless at putting it on and it usually goes all patchy. I was thinking about a spray on tan? I've also heard that fake bake is quite good although someone else did told me that one of there friends got it done and her face looked black because she has such pale skin. any recomendations?
why not get a real tan? if you really want fake tan, my advice is to avoid those salon lie-down-in-a-box ones. Those actually give you a very high risk of skin cancer (i read it off a medical news magazine). There are those fake tans which you can get, applies on like cover foundation...I've seen them being used in the OC. Try and check out the local cosmetics shops and see if they can recommend anything to you.

i've never been to a salon so can't advise about those, but i use clinique mousse fake tan and it's really good. it's tinted so you can see where you'ev put it and aviod streaks/blobs. be best to practise before though!

alternatively you can get fake tan that is put on wash off - it's just coloured moisturizer really, and you put it on your legs and the colour is there straight away, and lasts until you wash it off. that might be better  i use that if i'm going out and wearing a skirt!

Try the new johnson's holiday sun stuff, i have some its really good, its just like a moisuriser and it gives you colour without looking orange and streaky. If you're going to buy it though, buy the darker shade. I'm really pale skinned and it was fine on me, i don't think the lighter shade would really have that much of an effect.

I have the normal to fair skin Johnson's stuff, it's great! I'm really pale so it's perfect and really natural-looking. It did go a bit streaky at first but now it's evened out. Eugh, streaks are horrible.

I've got the normal to fair stuff, and that has been fine for me. I'm not particularly pale either. The first time I did it I ended up with a few streaks, but I think that was down to me not putting it on properly. After that I was fine though. It's only £5, but beware, it sells out really quickly!

I know it does, doesn't it! I went into boots and saw loads of people walking round with it, but it was so well hiden i couldn't find it for ages, then when i finally did there was only one left (it was BOGOF at the time), and i wanted two really, so that was a bit annoying, but never mind, one bottle will keep me going for a while.

I went shopping last sunday and it was sold out of Boots, Superdrug and Tesco! So in the end I bought a bottle off my mate. But when I went back on Saturday they had loads! Lol, that must be their delivery date

Ooh I found a streak-proof method of applying fake tan and making it look all pretty. You have to exfoliate, then apply it in an upwards direction, so it doesn't get stick under pockets of hair. Miss out elbows, knees and ankles and just do them with the excess left on your hands. Then moisturise those areas to dilute it a bit, and do the rest of you if you want, so it evens out. Poifect.

Fake bake is awesome! Im quite fair but it looks good on me! The ultimate tip is to use a mit to apply it though. Ive tried numerous brands with some absolutely awfull results!. With fake bake I literally slap it on with the mit in 2mins and have nowt to worry about.
Apparantly though, the best is St Tropez, but Im yet to try

This is by far the best website in the world on fake tans:

www.sunless.com

Their site and messageboard is a mine of information about products, applications etc. It's a little America-orientated but most of the products they mention you can get in some form or another here.

They also make the very good point that different fake tans look different on everybody, unfortunately it's a matter of trial and error (and money!). How a fake tan looks on you depends on your skin type (type 1, 2, 3 or 4), you undertones (rosy, olive or neutral), how dry or oily your skin is, what products you use on your skin, your natural skin chemistry. There is no correct answer to what is a good fake tan.
i have always found st tropez is very good and if u use the mitt u can avoid streaks  xoxo
