A Canadian Vs A Brit

OK GUYS - I DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!

O.k I am currently in the process of organizing my business final exam presentation. Since I go to a Canadian School we have been asked to relate whichever country we are studying to Canada. Now I have 2 actors. One is going to play a stereotypical Canadian and one will play a typical brit. From the short 1-2 minute conversation that they have I want to be able to depict some major differences in their cultures and their language. Ideally this should be a funny conversation and humour my audience who are out to learn about cultural differences between the two countries. I was thinking of the two being in an airport lounge and talking to each other. Maybe they could be talking about something which they think is the same thing but actually be talking about something completely different and not realizing because of the difference in their English. Now I love drama and acting but when it comes to script writing I am absolutely useless I kno what I want but as much as I have tried I cant seem to form the script and it only has to be 1-2 minutes long. This is where you lot come in do you think someone could write me a short 1-2minute speech in exchange for some rep???? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if possible could someone do this for me I’ll be forever in ur debt!

Thanks guys!!

hahaha - thats pretty good!! i might use some of that! however I'm looking for more differentiation. I want the audience to know right from the start whos the Canadian and whos the Brit and although i want it to be humorous it must also stick to the point that the whole skit has to depict the cultural differences and language differences between the two countries - thank u so much for your help though - will for sure use some of this!!! thanks!!!

do you mean like australians say thongs and we say flip flops or sandals, and to us thongs are underwear, and americans say pants when brits say trousers and to brits pants are underwear, do canadians call trousers pants? i was thinking you could do a canadian talking about his new pannts, and then a brit saying ill show you mine and he takes off his trousers in a public place or something, amid the shock and horrow of all the canadians around. but if canadians dont call them pants it wont work and it may be crap anyway i dont know lol.

cheers

Also i guess if you want a stereotypical canadian you could end every sentence with eh? :p:

Canadians do say pants... that would be a funny conversation.
Maybe you could also do word play on the Canadians "eh" at the end of sentences, and what it means to a Brit... ie, "eh?" would be like "what?" Just an idea...
Good luck

that's really good - and it would work, because to us "pants" mean "trousers"

One word (but please take it lightly, I'm not hating on anybody, this should really give you a lot to go on. But I don't know you're allowed to choose such a topic... anyway, here goes)

Fag.

Brit: "Pardon me, you wouldn't happen to have a spare fag on you, would you?"

I don't know if I'll get in trouble for this, but it's definately a way to be misunderstood

Reply 12

"Man I could really go for a fag right about now"

"Can I bum a fag?"

Reply 13

lol yeh that got me giggling  but for a international alevel presentation don't think I can use it - argh it's on thursday and still havent got the conversation sorted :s-smilie::s-smilie::s-smilie: - PLEASE HELP PEOPLE!!!!

Just please dont have your Brit speaking really posh. It drives me mad when particuarly American shows on TV (eg Friends) only ever show one accent for British people and always portray them as middle class posh

hehe, that's really funny and true. the stereotype over here is that there's only one british accent with slight variations in it
