Just buy some new ones. Thats because the last tenants probably took their bulbs with them and stuck old ones that had gone bust in, at the end. If you moan you will sound like a right whinging mard.

Just get buy new ones.

It's really not worth a moan to be honest.

Very basic maintenance like changing lightbulbs is usually a tenant's responsibility - and to be honest, even if it weren't, lightbulbs are pretty cheap and easy to get hold of, whereas waiting for someone else to sort them out (while sitting in the dark) could be pretty tedious.

Yes, they should be when you move in, but as everyone else has observed, it's a bit minor to moan about. Still, be a bit wary of your landlord if he hasn't even fixed something that simple for a new tenant.

Not worth moaning about, just buy a pack and change them

It's not really maintenance is it? Cos the problem was there to begin with.

Is it fair enough that I don't replace the bulbs for when I move out? Could the landlord take that out of my deposit?

Reply 7

You can buy a pack of bulbs for less than a quid. No one is going to take that amount of a deposit for light bulbs.

True :P But I need 8 candle ones for my room

Reply 9

Errm they cost about 50p, just buy some???

Although I'm not gonna lie, I did take the nice new energy saving lightbulbs that I only had in for a month out and replaced them with 50p ones, but at least they worked.

Just replace them the landlord may have replaced them with poor quality one that have blown already, i know some of the one we got in ASDA went after less than a week. That was in a room that no one ever goes in hardly

Reply 11

one of mine had blown when I got my keys, however the previous tenants had some spares that they left behind for us . As already said it's best to just replace them yourself as the effort it would take to complain/length of time it would probably take anyone to do anything about it isn't really worth it.

Previous tenants probably took them, then landlord probably deducted some rediculous sum from their deposit and still didn't bother to replace them.

True, true. I'm seriously considering halls for 3rd year

I am a landlord, and as far as I am concerned every light fitting and bulb should be working at start of tenancy, for the tenant. When bulbs subsequently blow that is the responsibility of the tenant, and they should all be working at end of tenancy.
