I've applied for Geography and Politics and have an interview on the 14th January. Has anybody else heard of this? I don't get why! I'm predicted 4As at A2 and an A at AS level!

I've applied for physical geography and also got my interview in the post today for january the 13th, when looking at entry requirements to begin with i never saw an 'interview' section so guess they forgot to mention that... but i also can't make my interview due to a physics AS resit, would they re-arrange it?

yee i tried to avoid all interviewing uni's aswell! but havn't heard back from the others yet....
I'm not too sure really, it'll be quite vague probably talking about current events so perhaps best to keep track of the news? it said in the letter they want to find out more about you, so perhaps hobbies, experience? It's so hard to determine with geography! :s-smilie:

Well done!
Just wondering what the day involved and whether they were group interviews or individually?

individual.

day started off with a tour of the labs then a talk and introduction to the department, then interviews then a tour - some people had tours first then interview. Talks and tours took their time.

People were lovely though and interview was ok, they made you feel comfortable.

Don't worry i'm sure you'll be fine

p.s after going there for a day, i really like it there.

Well done on your offer!

I know it's hard to remember specific questions but can you recall what you were asked about during your interview?
Anything would be helpful, stressing a bit!

Thanks, DO NOT STRESS ! - they are great:

Happy to help

1) - What were people wearing for their interview?
Well most people came very smart, with the exeception of about 4 people who came very casual - jeans etc. BUT most people did come smart. Shirt/Blouse skirt and for men a whole suite.

2)What were the kind of questions they asked? Did they ask that dreaded 'why geography?' question?
- yes they did. Honestly my interview was short, it was about why QM and why geog... also why i was leaning towards physical.... there are no set questions i believe, its a spin off from whatever you say really, like in my P.S i mentioned my trip and i said thats why im a physical geographer, so the guy interviewing me asked me about that. That was it really.. and they asked whether my grades were realistic or not.... for other people they asked why did they not take a gap year.

3) Where the L800 & L700 candidates mixed?
Yup. everyone was ... enviornmental geographers, physical and human.

The people were lovely, the tour was nice, campus was lovely, day was slightly rushed but still great in my opinion. Interview was no problem.... i think if you're called in your basically there.

Hope I helped. . .

feel free to ask any more questions

Hey,

I have an interview on the 3rd of february! this might sound like a stupid question but it says on the letter you can take a parent for the tours and stuff, did anyone actually do this or just go on your own?

Personally, i went by myself.. however when i went just underhalf of the students had a parent with them.

Depends on how confident you are!

I've got an interview on the 27th - was just wondering if they ask you about current affairs to do with geography or any other factual knowledge about geography?! If that makes any sense....
