I have a Casio FX-991ES and it's displaying answers in fraction form.

If I do 256 divided by 12, it will show it as a fraction 64/3...how do I get the proper answer in decimal form.

Press the S<->D button! It's above "DEL".

What makes you think a decimal answer is 'proper'? The fractional answer is correct and the decimal answer is an approximation.

or if you want it always to display decimals straight away, click shift and then setup (i think it is called that - the button to the left of the ON button) and select 2 (LINEO)

You might also want to enter

SHIFT
SETUP

otherwise, number as 'big' as 0.001 will be displayed in standard form.

By the way, it's usually best to start a new thread. When people see that it's a very old thread they might not read as far as your question.
