This happened on the road I live on, so I was actually called by West Yorkshire Police today asking if I was in the area (which I wasn't) or if I knew him (which I didn't). Really horrible, I can't believe it.
People shouldn't be scared though - I've never heard of a young person being murdered in Leeds before. Hyde Park doesn't feel dangerous at all - this is obviously just a very unfortunate one-off.
Llynus, what you have to bear in mind is that a depressingly large proportion of the population don't appear to believe that criminals are human beings with human rights.
Excuse me, but if you live in London you have a FAR higher chance of being murdered there!
I've lived in Leeds nearly 5 years now and this is pretty much the only incident I've heard of like this. Hyde Park is definitely a safe place, apart from a few burglaries, and when all the student are actually there during term time it's always buzzing anyway. Don't let something like this put you off.

That's why I'm leaving London lol. I'd hoped where I would be going would be an improvement I guess **** happens?
Don't worry, this is a one-off. If you even get burgled during your time in Leeds it'd be extremely unlikely. It's an awesome city and you'll have an amazing time
I was really sad to see that. I'm moving in to Hyde Park at the moment, but it hasn't 'put me off'... it's a senseless tragedy, but it seems to be a one-off... a burglary gone wrong, and I'm pretty sure they'll catch the bastards fairly quickly as it seems to have happened during the day in a busy sort of place (Hyde Park is generally just busy with people all the time). I do have to raise an eyebrow at the comments about scaring first years etc.. For one thing, first years are almost all in security guarded halls, and for another...what is this, Hogwarts? First years are adults and just as capable of rational thought and taking sensible precautions as 2nd and 3rd years... Anyways. Poor boy.
Oh, and did you see the way the Mail reported it? Their angle was that it happened in the street Chelsy Davy used to live in. FFS.
No but we are all excited and for this to be brought to our attention... its a bit of a downer aint it. But yes we are in more secured accom which I said in an after comment.

I should think it's a bit more of a downer for all who knew him. (and you're 'after-comment' is not in this thread...) But I see what you're saying. Anyway, enough of this. I hope you have an awesome first year, and that you end up loving Leeds as mch as all the current students do
