Kennedy/Knox Scholarships Harvard Application

I am applying for the Knox and Kennedy scholarships to go and study as a 'Special Student' at Harvard next year. However, my university doesn't know anything about the application process. This is particularly worrying as they can't offer me advice on how to write the personal essay. It's rather infuriating. Has/is anyone going through this process atm? Can anyone offer me any help or advice? It would all be much appreciated.
I am about to go through the same application process as yourself, all I know is that the applications have to be submitted through your parent university.

My university has been very helpful with any information or help I have required to go ahead with the application.

Have you tried speaking to lecturers in your department about your concerns?

The 'prospectus' from the Kennedy and Knox place was certainly handy and is the best thing I have so far. So is the secretary.

My uni is not even aware who it should send my applciation to, it has no scholarship office and the vice-chancellors office 'has never dealt with this previously'.

I have already spoken to some of my lecturers, in aprticualr one who studied in the US (alas not Harvard) and he is being extremely helpful but even he admits that he is not the ideal source. Fortunately my dissertation subject lecturer is the new head of my department which could help, but he hasn't replied as yet.

Good to hear that your uni is helping. I am not giving up on it. Mine seems to be bouncing me round the departments which is rather amusing (and obviously frustrating).

How far have u got with ur application? Are you intending to go and do a masters there? Its such an exciting opportunity. Just a shame i find writing about myself so painful!
I haven't got very far through the application, and to be honest its not really what I want to do .... i am looking more to studying i the middle east (as its closer to my area of research)

But obviously if I got the opportunity I would not turn it down! I am going to apply for a masters at the Kennedy School of Government.

What about yourself?

No, as you can guess I haven't got far either. You have to be so quick once you get back to uni. Oct 20 it closes doesnt it!

What do you really want to study? Where and what u studying atm? I really would relish the chance to go to Harvard. So this opportunity, as with urself, cannot be missed!

I am aiming to go as a 'Special Student' so that I can dip into many subjects. Including HKS of Governmnet. But I have been advised by the sec. to apply to the Grad School of Arts and Sciences and then choose modules from other schools including HKS. It means I do not come back with an actual degree but I am interested in broadenin my horizons a wee bit further.

You started ur personal essay? I have about 3 versions atm! My friends will soon be asked to read them through and say what is good and bad about each...i bet they can't wait!
I really want to study middle eastern economic and political development at either the american university of cairo or beirut.

Currently studying history at Queen Mary, but also study Arabic at SOAS, and study during the summer at Damascus Univeristy, Syria.

So although harvard is obviously something that can not be turned down, i feel that it might not compliament my studies thus far as much as I would like.

but oh well! everything is worth an application.
Is full funding in relation to tuition fees or living expenses, or both?

I believe both teh Knox and Kennedy ones pay the university straight away teh fees then give you a $22000 stipend for what we would prob call 'maintenance' like accom and food. Kennedy even offers you $2000 for travelling after. They are very generous packages. Hence why so few places are offered!

QMUL and SOAS? Thats quite a combination! Then Damascus as well. Very nice. U have plenty of options open to u, certainly.

Middle eastern economic and political development? Sounds like a crackin subject to study. I know very little about middle eastern history. I am mostly western and asian history.

I have been waiting all year for the applications to open again then stopped looking in late June when I was moving and forgot until mid-August. Rather silly really!

Hi guys, It sounds as If a few of you have applied and have been through the application process if not accepted onto the Kennedy/Knox scholarship programme and as someone who is interested in applying wondered if you had any tips? Particularly in the personal essay? I graduated a few years ago and have been in employment since 2012 and wondered if anybody knew how this would affect my chances in applying? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hello,

I am currently applying for the Knox and Kennedy scholarships, I have not yet found anyone who has been through the process. Well done for getting in!! I was wondering if you could offer any advice; specifically on the application essay?
