Glasses - Buying Frames and getting optician to fit lenses

Hi,

I found some nice frames (glasses) online.

I was wondering whether anyone has bought frames and then got opticians to fit lenses on them (ie not buying the frames from the optician).

Does this work out really expensive?

Can anyone recommend good high street opticians for fitting lenses on frames that aren't sold by them?

Thanks

I don't know how much cheaper this would work out - in my experience the lenses comprise the majority of the cost of the glasses. How about printing off a picture of the ones that you like and taking it into opticians to ask if they do anything similar?
Lots of opticians sell designer frames now - probably cheaper that way.

Thanks for your responses *River and ArchedEdge

Has anyone had personal experience of getting the above done?
Yes, I've had frames re-glazed by an opticians. It was fine, they charged £35 for the service, and obviously, I paid for the lenses.
They won't however, take any responsibility if anything goes wrong, as there's no guarantee on the frames, so you have to suffer the consequences if per chance, something was to happen to the frames.

So you had a pair of glasses, went to an optician (who had nothing to do with this original pair) and got the lenses changed?

Was this a high-street optician?

Thanks
Yes and yes.
ive had this done a couple of times, they just won't guarantee them as said above
only thing is, don't bother if you need a lot of thinning, it ends up way more expensive tho

www.speckyfoureyes.com

this site will reglaze your frames if you know your prescription

its £20 + £5 p&p for basic lenses but if you want thin lenses or coatings and tints and stuff it can cost more

specsavers have an offer atm wherey ou can sue that free nhs voucher + £35 for a pair of designer lenses, which isn't too bad seeing as they cost like £125 normally.
I've done it several times at Specsavers and never had an issue, however this week they've stopped doing it but if I find another one that does I'll post it here.
