Fm212

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone took FM212 last year? How did you find it and was there no moodle page (I can't see one)?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

There used to be some stuff early on in the summer on here: https://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/finance/internal/courses/FM212/fm212.htm

But seems like they've taken the lecture recordings and notes down now.

Oh right, cheers mate. How did you find the course?

Haha I'm actually in the same position as you - as in about to take it. But I was doing some research back at the start of summer on what options to take and came across this.

Ah good stuff. Might see you in class then!

Interesting, relatively comprehensive in its overview, challenging.

has someone completed the excel spreadsheets on the Brealey Myers Allen website?

and one more question... how many of those who sat the exam last year had a texas instrument calculator? is it worth purchasing?

Didn't do the excel spreadsheets on BMA, they didn't add much value to my exam prep.

Overall a really good course, I think taking it alongside EC210 will teach you a lot about whats happening at the moment in the news. If you struggle with reading The Economist or Financial Times and want to make sense of whats in the articles, I say go for it. It is challenging, but very interesting.

hated fm212 - the lecturers Mungo and Tonks, where the worst I've experienced at LSE and that takes some doing!

Mungo is actually a good lecturer in my opinion, I'd give him 8/10, on the other hand Tonks didn't have that approach to get people involved and follow him... 5/10?
agree on Mungo, didn't have the chance to follow Tonks

Does anyone have the 2007 (and possibly previous) exam paper?? on the lse site there are only papers from '08 and '09.

The course used to be called AC212 before 2008

sorry update: I've found only the solutions but not the origial exam papers.... I know it was previously known as AC212 but where do I find it on the past papers page? https://library-2.lse.ac.uk/protected-exam/

I did FM212 as well and I think I got a lot from the course considering I am not finance major. I found the exam a bit challenging but I got a very good grade so I am happy. Mungo was excellent and has a very engaging teaching style. With regards to Tonks, I think he is trying hard but I find him a bit boring. As far as course material is concerned, I think that the current lecture notes can be improved substantially. It makes a lot of sense not to rely too much on them.
well thanks, that seems to be a good news as I've never read the lecture notes. What I'm doing is complete every exercise of the textbook (quizzes + practise questions) and occasionally questions taken from other resources on the web. I'd be very very happy with a 2.2 by the way.
