# Aqa Maths Non Calculator watch

1. ****, it was hard. Everyone around me was suffering from trauma!! Wanted to cry . I hope to hell the calculators nicer, I was on an A/B borderline but I think we can screw that now. I thought it was ridiculously difficult.

Though I'm glad everyone else feels the same. I'm going to stop dwelling and not allow myself to become demoralised.

i did aqa maths...non calc but i do modular assessment, so dont think i did same paper as u, tho we did have sum hard vectors on there! our paper was harder than any past papers, wtf is it with aqa this yr? german was hard as well
I've just done that one too, I agree, very hard and so not like anything that was on any of the past papers I've done. Grrrr!
3. I made the stupidest mistake for the marking 0.42727272727 as a fraction. I put 427/990, when I should have put 47/110!!! That's my 4 marks gone That was just so silly! And I couldn't do question 13 about p+q either.
4. (Original post by oilcan)
That was eas................ily one of the hardest papers I've ever done.

For Jack I said he got 17 right with the following (crap) formula:

4x - (30-x) +25. Dunno how wrong it was.
OMG is that wrong? That's what I put and I worked it out and it was right!

Oh, well I know I definatly got that wrong. I pu 427/999
6. That paper was extremely harsh! This should mean the calc paper will be a little nicer, but thats not deff. Got A*'s for all modules and coursework so far. No way i got an A* in that, would be lucky to get a B
7. Damn, I'm hearing edexcel was easy. Damn AQA.

I put 427/999 too - that's right yeh?

I put that. I think it's right, but I didn't simplify it. I don't think you lose marks for not simplfying though because it didn't say 'write your sanswer in its simplest form'.

Oh I didnt think you could simplify it anymore so I left it.
11. **** that was more like an AS module than a GCSE.
12. Think I lost my chances of getting an A, doubt I got above a C at best

I'm hoping for an easier calc paper as I was stressing myself and getting all worked up and ratty today.

Not as I see it im afraid.

The recurring decimal was 0.42727272727...

Remember the '4'

Let the decimal = x

1000x = 427.272727272727...
990x = 423
It must be 990 to get rid of the four (10x = 4.27272727...)

x = 423/990
x = 141/330

x = 47/110

Thats what I get.
14. I forget what I wrote down, but I remember the difficulty due to this arse of a headache that ceases to die down ><
Seeing as we all found it so hard, they may lower the grade boundaries... right?

That is correct, but it can be simplified. 4x - (30-x) +25 = 4x +x +25 -30 = 5x -5 = 5(x-1)

At least I hope that is correct. That's what I did.
16. I used a much simpler method. It was just 4/10 for the 0.4, and 27/990 for the recurring decimal. Add them together (4/10 is 396/990) and BAM! Although I did work that one out in the last 30 seconds of the 2 hours, I just remembered the method on time :P.

As for the Jack marks question, I used trial and improvement since my expressions were *****. It didn't specifically say 'show your working', so do you think putting '17' will get me all 3 marks?

Overall, I thought it was a fairly difficult paper. I did estimate which marks I think I got, and which I lost out on, and it gave me about 80%. Boundary for A* around 70%?
17. I put 427/990, when I should have put 47/110!!! That's my 4 marks gone
You won't loose 4 whole marks, unless you just guessed

427 is not 47/110.

Did everybody get 0.729 for the last question? (all 3 passing)

Oh dont tell me ive read yet another question wrong, wasnt it 0.427427427?
19. 'Twas 0.4270270270270 to my knowledge, though I'm attempting to get it out of my mind right about now.

Yes, I got 0.729. It was 0.9 cubed, or something like that.
