Huh? Tthat is what I said, right? Assess breating (10secs) not breathing = clear airway and CPR.

Fair enough, I guess I'll learn the rest as a medic
Assessing breathing is exactly that, assessing breathing, it is not assessing airway.

Step 1) Check airway is patent and clear it if necessary
    2) check for breathing (and go for the carotid at the same time if trained to do so)
    3) If there are no effective breaths and no circulation start CPR.

^ The above is BLS - Basic Life Support. ALS is advanced life support.

even if there is circulation, you're meant to start CPR- the guidelines changed a year or two ago.

Thats what we got told, check breathing, if hes choking, help 'em clear out the airway and ab thrust/back slaps..if hes not, clear airway, 2222 and start chest compression and breths cycle.

I reckon a week. This means I can't spam up the forum as much, and it's the dental beer race and rag ball.. and rag week generally, so much to chat about!

I finish friday 27th june. yourself?
6th June ;yes; We had our exams early this year, just a couple of attachments and an extra week of teaching left
I'm disappointed that we're back on 1st September though..

oh my gosh that was not fun

messed up one of my (2!) cardiac exams, because the examiner kept putting me off by saying "focussed exam, focussed exam" over and over

messed up peripheral vascular exam, because the examiner wouldn't let me get beyond inspection, kept saying "do you want to ask the patient anything"

had an arse of a station where I was to talk to the dad of a 1yr old with scolding on her right side (without seeing the patient) - excluded NAI, then the SP kept asking me what the outcome will be like, will it scar, etc even though i kept saying i hadn't seen the kid ffs

    ho hum

WE get 24 days for summer this year, which I know is more than other clin schools (that's why we have such pants Christmas and Easter hols), but I still NEED more!!!!
