There are three banks on the university campus (now that HSBC have closed their branch), the likes of:

Barclays
Lloyds TSB
Natwest

Its difficult to suggest which bank to go with, but the general consensus is that Natwest provide the best student account (I think). If you sign up with them you also get a 5 year railcard for free. The overdraft can be run (interest free) to £1250 in your first year.

Barclays runs in at 2nd, with 6 free cinema tickets if you sign up (but its a really annoying to get them) and an interest free overdraft of around £1000 in your first year (this may have changed).

Lloyds TSB run a tiered overdraft system, up to £500 for your first 6 months, up to £1000 for the next three months but then caps of at £1500 whereas Barclays and Natwest run higher I believe. The freebies are a bit lame as well, free NUS card (worth about £10).

Hope this helps!

I have a HSBC student bank account which is pretty good, but I heard Natwest are the bizz for students. I bank at HSBC cos i think they're staff are the best.

Has the HSBC really closed down at the Guild of Students.
