When do we actually get told which books to buy?

I've just been on https://library-1.lse.ac.uk/rl/rest/departments and the reading lists are for 08/09 .... will they be the same for 09/10 do you think?

thanks
Probably but you can double check on the course guides: http://www.lse.ac.uk/resources/calendar/courseGuides/undergraduate.htm

In the first lecture, Iain Long will no doubt repeat several times, accompanied by Powerpoint (naturally) the names of the books you need to buy. Alsi, in Waterstones, the books are accompanied by signs with the courses for which the books are required.

Macroeconomics - Mankiw and Taylor (+ unused student guide and workbook)
Microeconomics and behaviour - Frank

i don't recommend the calculus text book, professor Jan's (<3<3!) slides are very thorough and it's all available online after the lecture. if anything they're actually slightly better than the textbook because it provides step by step stuff.

linear algebra perhaps, because Dr. Harvey doesn't provide full slides and she writes on the slides as she lectures. i didn't really use mine, i'm a robot note taker and jot everything down.

highly recommend both econ textbooks simply because it helps with revision and most of the material taught are in there. i used mine a lot anyway, can't say much for others.

edit: student guide and workbook is *****, dont bother.
Im selling the MA100 and EC102 books, if any is interested PM me.

If you click the courses on the LSE website, it takes you to a page listing every topic covered in that module. In addition, at the bottom, it has a reading list - those are the books which are used.

You can get them at big Waterstones, e.g. the one at LSE. It's best to wait till the start of year as there will be deals about and you might be able to get second hand books.

The editions don't matter a lot, but Waterstones will have the latest one + the editions are listed on the LSE website.

You won't find the maths or stats ones hugely useful and won't be using them much, by the way. Indeed, a lot of my friends never used them.

I would counsel anyone who buys this guy's books against accepting the quiz answers.
Firstly, the quizzes are the only proper practice for the exam; there is only one sample exam paper, and the textbook questions are not applicable. Don't waste this valuable resource. Secondly, Alwyn (if he's still teaching it) may well change the quiz around, he's wise to people cheating and copying, as he told us last year. Thirdly, it is only by going through the quizzes thoroughly that you really get to grips with the material.

It's of course nice to get the quizzes all right. It's even nicer to be prepared for the exam.

Got all first year text books, 2 preliminary reading books and all solutions to MA100 and ST102. I agree with advice above, do the ec102 quiz's, forget working for the others.
