St Margaret's Garth - St John's but a member of St Chad's?!

Hello,

I finally got an offer of accommodation and have been on a waiting list for a long time at St Chads College.

I was given no choice accept to live in St Margaret's garth by the univeristy. It was this accommodation or find your own place and at so short notice it was not practical.

My question is does anyone know anything about the accomodation in st Margaret's Garth? I cannot really find any information on the St John's web page or anywhere else for that matter.

Intrestingly I am ment to stay part of St Chads College. This offer was in a general email to a number of students. I am therefore guessing there are other postgrad's out there in the same position. If so I would like to hear from you!

edit bad english, spelling etc (which will still be poor but the message maybe clearer (thanks MyNameIsDave)
I'm not sure if English is your first language, but I'm having trouble understanding exactly what you want to know.

I think you're saying your accommodation is St. John's accommodation, yet your college is St. Chad's?

Basically yes and I will edit my post to make more sense now that I have re-read it!

My question is about St Margarets Garth and what it is like to live in.

st margarets garth is john's accomodation, but not on the Bailey itself. I had a couple of friends living there last year, though I only visited once :colondollar:
Seemed fairly nice from what I saw. And the college thing shouldn't be a problem. Whilst one of my friends was from John's, the other one was from mary's

I would explain where it is, but if you don't know Durham it probably won't mean a huge amount to you.

Hi,

I can't help about the college situation, are you an undergrad?
I do however know a reasonable amount about Margaret's. The are flats with 5 bedrooms, a kitchen/living room (pretty good size!), a bathroom and toilet. Every room has the usual university internet connection and normal college-type furniture. Access to each block of flats is by code and then the flat is unlocked by key (and you can lock your room too). It's located on crossgate, about 10 minutes walk (if not less) from Chad's and is very convenient for the centre of town.

I hope this helps a little, if you need any more info let me know!

Brillant! I am a postgraduate joining this September. I have since been in contact with a few people and have decided to transfer to St Johns to make the moving process easier. Also the switch to St John's was an offered within the accommodation offer so after a bit of thought it made sense.

Again thanks for your help.

Well, I did my undergrad at John's and am also doing a postgrad this year. Living out but no doubt we'll bump into each other!

Far as I have been told it is on a road called "Brass Thill"

Sorry abut the long link. These are the flats I think. there are also some houses on Crossgate but I am not to sure. Not to far away from most places by the look of it.

Crossgate. You know the traffic lights at the bottom of nevilles cross bank? (or the road that continues on from that road anyway) it's across the road from there more or less:

Hi I am pretty sure that the link you have posted is not right as I have been sent a map by the postgraduate tutor. Your description seems to be right but not the google map link. Sorry!

well the google map link goes to where I described. So yes it is

*checks*
oh, no it doesn't, it goes to where you linked to.

Hang on a minute and I'll fix it

edit: fixed. I'd forgotten than google maps can be silly about not changing the url.
