Psychology, Sociology, Film Studies and the like. (If it has the word studies after then Mickey studied it)

Cambridge or Oxford have an official list of "mickey mouse subjects" and media isn't accepted without two other "proper" subjects:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/education/article5361672.ece

u can see them in this paper:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/14801785/The-Simple-Guide-to-ALevels-UCAS-and-University

according to that, only eng lit, hist, foreign languages and sciences/maths are "respected"

Ummm, You have to have at least a B in english and science to take psychology, so how is that a 'mickey mouse' subject?

And in my opinion there is NO mickey mouse subject. That's just a conceited word created by people who are well....conceited.

As a science it's not as highly regarded.

As an A level it is.
Some universities accept it as a science subject.

Reply 15

Ah ok, my school never offered it until I left so I didn't get much of a chance to actually look at the material anyway :P.

Not at our school you don't. They only set min. requirements for maths/English/sciences etc.

It's a word used to describe "less respected subjects" - of which there are definitely some!

Umm, where does economics come in that?

Reply 18

What about Statistics (as a subject at A-level)?

and i don;t really care, if thick people i like can get in doing **** subjects, then good for them and good for me

Mickey mouse = all subjects on university blacklists + some others people may have never heard of.

I don't think psychology OR sociology are 'mickey mouse'. They're definitely 'softer' than the traditional subjects but they're on no blacklists and people who take them still get into top five universities. I think economics (even though it's a bit more challenging) belongs to the same group.
