Does anybody know how long after the HAT we find out if we have an interview?
Original post by flywithemma
I have no clue why i'm not nervous...I think nerves will probably start kicking in at the weekend. I think it's because I've been focusing so much on the essay recently...and also because I haven't done THAT much HAT practice...I've done one practice paper, and planned some questions...so there haven't been many 'aahh, i'm not doing what the mark scheme said' moments...if that makes sense.
have you done loooooads of practice? I know someone from another school who is doing it, and they've done every single practice paper there is in proper exam/timed conditions. Ahh. that worried me a bit.

and YEY New College  it would be cool if we both ended up there!

I haven't done great amounts of preparation, hence the nervousness...i've had a few sessions discussing the types of questions...but when it comes to writing down my ideas within a time limit, i'm sure i'll go completely blank...ahhhh... good luck for wednesday!

Hi guys! Does anyone know what marks are 'good' for the HAT? What is the cut off point for not being interviewed?

I am so scared.

I read in the initial report that you need to get over 47% not to be rejected straight away, I don't know whether this is still the case though...could be higher!
Original post by Zebralionzebra
Aaaah thanks! Thats not bad at all. Although I'm guessing it is most probably higher now as that was the initial report and back then people didn't know what to expect. Can't be much more than 60% though.

I don't know what the cut off is, but surely it must vary year on year depending on how many candidates get a certain grade. Wouldn't make sense to only interview 60 people for example if that was only how many got over the grade. Or visa versa. Don't know though?

Yes I'm sure thats right. Though by looking through all the most recent papers, they seem of very equally difficulty. So I'm guessing it doesn't vary that much, but I think above 65% should be enough. They only have to cut off 25% of people.

What sort of marks are you guys getting?

To be honest it's so hard to say. On the paper I've done, I found it very difficult to mark as the mark schemes are quite vague and abstract. Think I got the gist of the answers they were looking for, which is a good sign.
Hey guys, good luck for the HAT, was just wondering what topics your submitting your essays about?

I'm doing mine on Mikhail Gorbachev and how his reforms contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

PS. Does anyone know how Nazi the tutors are about you re correcting your essay? I know they say dont, but mine was written the night before it was due and has a few annoying grammar/ spelling errors, or will they not really care about it if its still a good essay (it got an A+ from my Uni in New Zealand, and its for a second year course, as I got allowed to do some second year papers in my first year bc of my HS grades, and decided to apply based on those grades.)

Arrgh, need to stop stressing about it!

The Restoration of Charles II
Hi everyone. I'm an international school student in South East Asia. Although my school is UCAS registered, not many apply to the UK here (mostly US), and no one has ever applied to history at Oxford before me. :/ That said, my school has no experience whatsoever administering the HAT, or even receiving it.

What happens if it doesn't arrive tomorrow? What happens if it hasn't even been sent off from Oxford at all? Should I have done anything to verify that Oxford has sent the test to my school, that has never before received the test?

Should I just rest assured that the test will arrive in the mail tomorrow? If it doesn't, is that the end of the world for me, or are considerations made?

Appreciate anyone efforts to assuage this panic-stricken Asian. Thank you.

If you weren't told to fill out a Test Declaration form, it should have been emailed to whoever is on record with UCAS (at your school) as the Examinations Officer yesterday.
And how would I have been asked to fill out the test declaration form? It says that if you're from a UCAS registered school you don't have to, but I'm not sure if that applies in my case. If I wasn't explicitly told to do so (email or anything), do they just send it to every school on their UCAS address list, even halfway around the world?

I'm from Thailand but my school isnt registered with UCAS so i had to fill Test declaration form.
When I filled that, they sent confirmation email to both my school and myself.
In your case I sugggest you should ask directly to your teacher in charge if he/she has received the test or not because it should come since yesterday:wink:

Anyways Best Of Luck for tomorrow:biggrin::biggrin:

by the way i'm sitting MAT:biggrin:

Main reasons for the assassination of Caesar... A bit random but we'll see how it goes if I get an interview...

On another note, I'm getting incredibly worried about the HAT...

Ditto... bit worried we're going to get something very philosophical and I'm going to go about it the wrong way, haha! Not done as much revision as I should have, really.

it's relatively hard to revise for. as long as you have a basic knowledge of what you've studied should be ok.

is anyone else applying to study history and politics at university college? so nervous about the HAT tomorrow morning
Kinda realised now that it's pointless/impossible to revise much for the HAT. I've read some past papers and mark schemes; but because everything is so specific to the sources and questions... It's not doing much apart from telling me to be clear, read things carefully and take my time.

Still scared as hell though.

Sent my essay off - it got 90% so should be okay.

God, I hope I get an interview after this....
I'm new here, but I'm also doing the HAT tomorrow!!
what colleges are you guys all applying to?

yup it is. last years paper would have suited me well, especially the question on the physical environment!

i'm a bit nervous, not too nervous knowing i can go through all of this again next year if need be. i'm sending my essay off tomorrow, i'm not actually allowed to find out what it got - i just hope it's good...
Just finished the HAT!
I guess I cant really talk about it, but I wouldn't be too worried about it.
