There was a canoe mentioned in Question 2?! What?!

Yeah the woman said she gave birth to many successful canoe managers
Did anyone else say that the woman had links to defence (giving birth to warriors but also training the young men to go to war) and that this showed a sort of primitive delegation of powers within the tribe?
They never said men were explicitly warriors and her stabbing of prisoners imply that woman were too. Also I said managers of canoes implied fishing.

Rawr.

yeah i said it linked with thhe view of the french dude saying that the women were at least equal, but possibly had more (their cruelty, power of life)

Ah excellent  I hope they are more fussed about your precision and the way you present your ideas :P
So it's gone midnight and I'm pretty sure we can discuss it now, what did everyone write about in their essays ...I would go frist but I don't wanna get a ban or hace my paper disqualified incase this is too early so I'll join in later...win win

I enjoyed it but I'm not getting in... oh well, there are other universities, yes? I started waffling on about completely different things to everyone else in the sources and didn't make my point very clear in 1c.
I think we can discuss it yeah  In 2 I did talk about women participating in violent acts, I mainly focused on gender relations. I also talked a bit about religion, warfare (+ mentions of race), age (and arranged marriages), and nature.

In 1c I wrote on Alexander II's Emancipation Edict, nobility's effect on AII, peasant conservatism, and the intelligentsia, also the lack of public sphere and public opinion as well as the stark differences between social classes.

In 1c i wrote about the American Civil War and the effect it had on the moral and support behind Lincoln in the north, same as you with a focus on changes in public opinion. I also drew a nice parallel with mr obamas loss of public support as shown through the mid terms yesterday, i thought they would like a sentence or two of current affairs thrown in there, history as it happens sort of thing :P

For question two, did you think the native americans were christian or pagan, it sounded like they were very pagan, but the reference to the "Creator" suggested it could have gone either way.

I thought it was ok, I don't think I bombed but I think it's like impossible to say how it went for sure, I'm just not sure how much they expect from these tests.
ALSO does anyone know who we send our essays to, is it our college of choice or to the History faculty?

College of choice, it does say that on the cover letter
How did everybody find the HAT? A bit worried that I answered my 1c too much like a narrative. How did you all structure your responses -- and did you reference the main text at all, or did it function as its own essay?

PS - #2 is a downright matriarchal society, right? :O

I didn't quote the source in question 1 as it always said use your own words. I think my part a was a flop as I used to some inventive grammar to squeeze it into one sentence lol. 1c. was ok, I used Napoleon as the topic I talked about and just talked about the different ways he treated his people and how that was shown through his policies and stuff.
I started off thinking it was just a straight-up matriarchal society however once I thought about it, it seemed like there was no actual endorsement from the men of the women's role, I said she might just be expressing a feminist view (wierd I know) also because they had to do that dancing thing for them, it shows that they're still treated as objects really and the parity of the genders may not what the tribeswoman would lead us to believe.
Really, I just made it up as I went along :/
Ok, having read what others wrote, I now feel utterly despondent. :emo: My ideas for Question 2 were definitely rather basic. I wrote about how it could suggest a matriachal society, but that because she refered to men thinking they were "weak and infirm" misogyny was also present perhaps. Wrote a but about warriors, mention of Creator and importance of nature. I sounded utterly thick though.

For c I wrote about the Great Reform Act but I went all waffley so I don't think I did very well. I found 1b really hard! What did everyone write for that?!

for 1b i said:
the system allowed 'ordinary people' a chance to influence the laws through initiatives, but despite this most 'initiatives' which resulted in change had their origins in the upper echelons of society, so the system wasnt brilliant. i talked about quite a bit of other stuff too. i only wrote like 12 lines though...

Yes that's roughly what I wrote about too - and yes, I only wrote about 12 lines as well! Usually those line limits are quite constraining ....

I know how you are feeling trust me! There's loads of stuff in the source which I didn't comment on when I knew I should have :/

I wrote that they clearly practised religion but it was unclear whether it was Christian or something else
