You need to be over 21, I dont know much more. 
You must be at least 21 to drive a heavy goods vechicle. http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/vehicle_cat_desc.htm#Large%20Vehicles

you ahve to be 18 for LGV (upto 7.5ton) or 21 for HGV
