I have had a couple of resits but found one really hard even after revising hard for it and im worried that I have failed it again. Is it possible to still get onto 2nd year with one failed module? I went to nearly every lecture so it isnt like I'm lazy and dont try hard at uni. Im losing sleep over this and the uni/tutor havnt replied yet. Really dont want to resit the year and if thats the case then i will leave which i would hate to have to do.
Possibly. You might to be able to get through and take an extra module in the second year but every uni is different. You shouldn't have to resit the year, though, that seems a little extreme for one failed module.

Search through your departments handbook (there should be a copy of it somewhere on their webiste, surely) to find the small print, as all departments are different.
My department requires that you don't fail core modules, but you can soft fail other modules (35% or above) so long as your overall average is over 50.
Even if you did badly, all is not lost as they don't just throw you out, they have a panel which decides what to do. As often as not they'll let you carry on, though they may attach some conditions to your performance in second year.
As far as i'm aware for ibers you're only allowed into the next year if you pass everything/only got 40credits or less worth of conditional fails But that might be a general thing for all years, and they could be more lenient for first years Which module was it, btw? I'm a first year zoology as well
It was microbes so it was a core module but the resit was a lot harder than the exam back in May which I thought a bit unfair. I'm hoping I did better than I think and I'm worrying about nothing. But im losing sleep over this because i dont know what the outcome is going to be

Ive emailed my tutor and the academic department but havn't given me any reassurance. They didn't mention this panel thing that your talking about?!? I dont mind having certain conditions in 2nd year as long as I get in!

It's kinda silly really. When you register, they give you these great big thick booklets containing the rules and regulations, along with the progression rules and examination rubric. It's all on the web too. However, nine times out of ten, most departments seem to ignore that and have their own interal procedures and policies anyway.
Didn't want to make a new thread about this but does anyone know if they sometimes release the resit results a couple of days early? Loads of people didn't turn up to my resits anywhere so surely that means less papers to mark?

And thanks for the advice
Veeerry unlikely. The deadline/announcement dates are set when they are because of the different levels of confirmation it all has to go through. So even if they mark all the scripts the day after the exam, they still have to wait for the relevant departmental meetings and for general conferring from somewhere up on high in the overall university heirarchy.
I failed one module(resit) with management course (year 1) and I'm going through some serious life event and taking anitdepressante durning the whole summer and resit period, I told my school but they didn't take it in consideration and not allow me to progress to year 2.
but someone I know had similar situation happened last year his uni allowed him to progress to year 2 and give chance to do the failed module again while he is at year2.

I dont think that happens at all unis tho. They didnt mention i could do that when i emailed various people at mine. But its just annoying that my attendence is really good, my overall marks aren't brillant but will 7 exams to revise for in each semester i struggled, i just hope they will let me take a module in 2nd year because im commited to my course and if i fail just one then i have to resit the year...i dunno. I really really dont want to leave uni. Sorry to hear you are going through a tough time.

Do you think they talk about the attendence and look at the other marks when considering whether or not someone should pass to get onto 2nd year? I thought the exam board met up or something??

They do meet up, that's one of the departmental meetings I was getting at. I don't know what they talk about really. They will talk about whatever they feel is relevant, if they feel attnedance is relevant and it is reliably recorded then it will be mentioned, if no one in the room thinks it's relevant then it won't be. It depends upon the people in the room.
Broadly speaking they decide to keep or reject you based on their judgement of your academic potential. They're more likely to go through your actual coursework and exam essays, looking for general patterns of your strengths and weaknesses.

So if they see that I am stronger in essays (which i am) will they take that into account because its more essay based in 2nd year rather than multiple choice?

Its not a case of being strong or weak in essays as opposed to MCQ's. It's that essays will demonstrate which parts of the course you are stonger and weaker at far better than MCQ's. Even essays with relatively high marks have some mistakes and occasional evidence of poor understanding, just as essays with poor marks nearly always show relative skill in one or more particular areas of understanding (though by definition these will be fewer in low mark essays).
It then depends upon the academic judgement of the departmental exam board (with input from others) as to whether the particular skills and areas of good understanding are crucial enough to warrant you staying on the course and that the areas in which you performed poorly are ones in which it is possible you will improve.
I failed one module, I still have 40% overall and so far my student record says that I have to repeat the year all because I have failed one module. I have rung and emailed the department but still waiting for a call back and no reply from the email. I don't know what my chances are It wasn't even the module i thought I failed!
Be patient and listen to whatever they tell you, at the end of the day it's in their interests for you to do well and they want to help you. Repeating a year may be ******* annoying, but it's not the end of the world.
