LOL. Freshers are crazy

The UNI card has NUS on it. So it will get you into student nights pretty much anywhere in the country. This is 99% of the benefit of NUS.
if you want all the clothing/pizzas/stuff discount then get an Extra. got one first year. Didnt use it. Check out the deals on Extra website. If they dont appeal dont bother. :smile:

I just checked out the deals, I'll definitely make a lot of use of the discounts it offers, especially the Topshop one :p:

so I'll buy one.

This is really annoying me, when I upload a photo it automatically crops the top of my head off. It's done this to every photo I've uploaded and I've even cropped it myself and it just zooms in and crops the top of my head off or puts my photo too small with large white borders around it. Help!

How important is it that the photo FITS THE BOX? I tried using a digital camera and yes my photos fitted the box but somehow no matter what I had done to them they became too close up when they had uploaded, so that it was only my face and not an entire passport photo-esque shape in the box.

So I scanned a passport photo in, and sure the image is bad but it isn't so bad you can't tell its me, so I think it would be acceptable, but it really doesn't fit the box.

Why the hell does all this enrollment process stuff have to be using computers?! I hate it, I'm such a luddite, I don't know how to resize images or edit picture quality or whatever.

These stories crack me up, can remember it was fairly simple for me :s-smilie:

Worst case scenario you go to collect and they take a picture of you then and there and you have to wait an extra 20 minutes.

Well I've sent them a message about my problem and a 150x150 photo of myself via their "Contacting the Enrolment Team" form online. Hopefully I'll get a reply sometime tomorrow.

I'm poking at the photo uploader now. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the photo backend tries to recognise your face and center it. I guess sometimes the algorithm doesn't work too well.

If it helps, you could try cropping the picture so that the oval making up your head is right in the center.

edit: uh-oh, I think I broke something!

edit #2: it's okay now... my current photo coincidentally has the head and the shirt collar of two earlier photos. :biggrin:

edit #3: it definitely does face recognition, I uploaded a photo of a tree and that didn't work (no face found or some error like that). But whatever recognition it does do is absolutely terrible, it accepted this:

It automatically cropped some of the hair, too. Heh.

But it says that if the picture doesn't meet their guidelines we have to pay 15 quid to get another one printed, and yet, try as I might, I can't get one to fit their guidelines. I think it's a scam :p:

haha I prob already posted, but I spent ages in my first year choosing out a nice photo and uploading it...said it was OK etc.

Got there and they said they 'didn't have it' so I had to have one taken on the spot, which is awful cos I'd been in a car for about 12 hours.... bah.

I'm fairly sure they check the photos, give them a once over before they print for the first time/if there is no photo submitted and make you take a new one..

I really want to try it out to see what you are all talking about but it wont let me again :smile:

Does it matter if the background is not white? I've uploaded a photo and i think it's quite clear on my face, my camera is quite good and it's bright enough, but the background is like a blue colour because of my wallpaper! What do you think?

ah, just got it working. Turns out if you click the upload new photo link it crumbles down around your ears, but if you go to the add new photo link on the left it works fine??
