the pill

im goin to the doctors next week to go on the pill i was just wondering can u start takin it at any point in your cycle or does it have to be the first day of your period or something?

thanks
Depends - do you plan to have unprotected sex straight away? I took mine mid cycle coz i couldnt bare to have another painful period coz i knew i wouldnt have unprotected sex straight away. If you plan to, then it is best to wait till the first day of your period or you might get an unwanted prenancy.

it won't work properly as contraception if you start using it mid cycle.
why not just use condoms?

yes it will, just not for 7 days.

if you start taking it on the first day of your period, you are protected immediately.

you can start taking it at any other time as long as you use another form of contraception for 7 days.

This will all be explained in the pamphlet that comes with it, and, i would hope, the doctor.

yeah, well i'm pretty much positive that it won't work if you start taking it mid-cycle, although i first started taking it mid cycle to help with period pain. if you're just wanting to use it for contraception purposes then i'd suggest waiting till the first day of your next period and then you will have contraception (obviously listen to what your Dr says) . it's a shame you won't have it in time for going away with your bf, but then you'll have it for as long as you want afterward  have a nice trip

my dr said the '7 day rule' didnt apply when you first started taking it. meh. i'm gonna shut up now. don;t want to be responsible 4 any pregnancies. i'd just say use a condom till you're positive you;re protected by the pill.

you're protected by the pill 7 days after you start taking it if you start mid-cycle, or immediately if you start on the first day of your period.

if you start on the first day of your period you can be sure you have not just ovulated. otherwise you could have just ovulated and so have to wait 7 days until the pills take affect and stop you ovulating.

how do you judge when you are protected by the pill?!

Again thank you 'allisandro' you have cleared up all my worries coz i had exact same question as 'sarah12345'.
Although, my doctor told me to wait at least 14 days if i started it mid cycle ... think that was just him being cautious though ... 7 days is the stated time though as someone has already pointed out
might depend which pill too! if your not combined pill it could be different! Dont know though. I know i was told 7 days, as the first and last 7 pills are the most important in the pack for contraception! I know what you mean about not worrying about condoms though, my and my bf used on the first time - found it majorly desensitizing and it was a stimulating one  - but then we didnt bother, i was on the pill and i knew he was safe so! but im not sure that i would risk it on the first month! talk to your doctor HONESTLY about it! Dont just be all bashfull and say ye ok. Its for the best! Good luck!
