Weight loss tips

To clear things up, I'm not one of these insane people that needs to lose weight because they have a size 8 dress and are a size 8.2 or something... whatever the hell that means.

I am a quite seriously overweight person, who when deshirted is probably a disgusting sight for anyone... or enough to induce temporary blindness.

I have been trying to diet, but after losing 3 stone, it just stopped. My body is now not letting me lose weight anymore and I seriously dont get why. I keep falling off the wagon too, because however much tennis I play, or running and cycling I do, I am just sitting at the 3 stone loss. My body just has this nack for opposing my weight loss.

I am still seriously overweight, think I am still considered obese for my height. Main worry is I have to go on holiday with some friends, and I want to be able to go in the pool or the sea without the lifeguard posting a beached whale sign in my honour. I know I am never going to be slim, but I want to lose about another stone before I go away. Any tips??

I just ate about 1500 cals a day, stopped eating desserts and snacks (2 big meals or 3 small ones a day), drank more water. And also played tennis 2 times a week, badminton 2 times and ran one night a week for an hour...

I might just up the exercise... and stop falling off the damn wagon!!!

take one thing out of your diet that you always take, but wont really miss. Like instead of two sugars in tea, have 1. instead of fruit juice in the morning, have tea(without milk). switch milks. i dunno, but something that wont make you crave it. It doesnt sound like a lot, but one of my friends did that, hes not exactly huge, but he lost like 4lb just cos of that

If you're not concerned about muscle loss(which you shouldn't be) then you can do something similar to what I did when I was in my days of morbid obesity.

Eat 1000 calories a day, something for breakfast is very important, a bowl of cereal is fine, thats 300 calories, then at lunch have something, couple of slices of toast and jam is fine, then for dinner have something but dont let it exceed 500 calories. Make sure you take a multi-vitamin supplement and omega 3 fish oils supplement, its likely you'll be massively malnourished otherwise. Drink water like you're drowning in it.

On top of this, do 60 mins cardio exercise, break it down into 3 x 20 mins or 2 x 30 mins in a day if you want, but make sure its solid, consistant, calorie burning. For me this was on a cross trainer. But tennis isnt good enough for this, cycling probably doesn't get your heart-rate high enough, so go running, if you can't run, use a cross-trainer.

Do this everyday, don't ever have a day off, now I can guarantee you this will be one of the hardest things you'll ever do, there will be times when you think that your stomach is digesting its own walls because you are so hungry, but believe me, it bloody works! I lost 5 stone in 6 months using this method.

Why dont you contact the National Slimming Association, they will put you in touch with a local advisor who can help. My aunt lost 6 stone through this. Check the yellow pages for the number.

Eating less than 1200 calories a day is pointless, you'd lose weight (mostly muscle) quickly and just end up putting twice as much back on, but would all be fat.

Eat about 1300-1400 calories, exercise at least 30 mins everyday at a fairly high intensity and don't eat anything within 2 hours of sleeping. Then when you're happy with your weight decrease the exercise a little bit, but not too much or you start gaining weight again, regular exercise is the key

Wonderful idea for a diet:
Drink only coffee for 1 week - no food. Your energy is kept up by the caffine so you don't feel like utter s**t. You WILL lose weight by doing this.

Disclaimer: I'm not sure how safe this is; I will not be held responsible for anything that happens to you if you follow my advice.

Hi there. I'm a member of slimming world. So i go every week and we have chats and get weighed and its an excellent friendly enviroment that i found works really well for me. The diet is fab , your always eating which is nice. Plus you still have lots of treats. It works on the principle of food optimising but you get more help and i find that helps keep me motivated.
If you'd like to know more let me know.

Well, how did I lose 5 stone and not put it back on then?

Eating 200 calories extra wont make any difference, if you want to save yourself from morbid obesity then you just need to lose that fat, forget about muscle, energy levels, everything, just get rid of that belly!
Ask your dad not to purchase those Cadbury's chocolate trifles and Magnums  Or...even better...give them to me!

well I am concerned about losing muscle. I think the problem stems from the fact that having been so fat, and SO active for so long (just with poor diet). Having to carry my body has made my legs, stomach and even my arm muscles bulk up and incredible amount. That's why I am so much heavier than I look, which I think is an indication of fairly high muscle density, and also the fact that I am not Rik Waller. I am eating 1500 calories a day now... 1000 is risking a high muscle loss, which isnt something I really want... Plus my rest calorie burning exceeds 2000 atm... I may do 1000 if I get desperate.. but with exams and revision to get through I am going to have to adapt.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will post before I go away and inform of progress.

dude dont be in a calorie deficit for exams

high protein, like a few 100g a day, is believed by most people to reduce muscle loss when cutting
Grapefruit is meant to have enzymes which breakdown fat, many celebs are said to swear by this method, including Kylie.

Also its full of vitamins and tastes nice (IMO)

In that case its a whole different kettle of fish, 1500 is far too little to preserve muscle.
I heard somewhere on a tv prog that this obese woman dieted tons, and then it suddenly stopped after losing four stone. I cant remember the reason, but i remember that she had to eat oil and things.....so she put an oil dressing on her lettuce and things, and apparently it worked... i don't know how effective this is though.

I think it only works if you havent been eating ANY fatty foods, and just sticking to salad and stuff............

I wouldn't worry about losing muscle if you consider yourself obese, you can build it back once you're in a better position.. keeping the muscle but losing fat will take much longer.

Which idiot gave me bad rep^ for my contribution? I was being serious! If you don't believe that it works, try it - it probably will.

People telling you not to worry about muscle loss are wrong, you need the muscle you have now to maintain the weight you get to.
Things i suggest you remember to follow are, eat regularly but in small amounts you should never get that burning hunger pain in your stomach that is not helping the process.
Secondly the meals should be as natural as possible as they will be metabolised far faster.
Try and do your cardiovascular exercise whilst on a calorie deficit as then your body will revert to the fat stores as its form of energy.
