I just saw a side of my mum that Ive never seen before, she was talking about the world cup and how England are going through but Scotland might not and she said "They cant be better than us, thier English". And she proceeded to rant about how the English are this and that. What has happened to her? I nevr thought she felt that way.

Its not racist at all - the Scots and the English are the same race, just different nationalities.

Are the Scots and English the same race? Remember race as a based of skin colour is a fairly modern idea. "Race" used to be based on genes and ethnicity, but has been perverted for social and political ends.

No i don't think its racist either. Scottish and English people are of the same 'race' aren't they?? Its just a scottish vs. english thing hats been going on for generations.

Don't worry about it! Even if she is - just make sure you don't follow in her footsteps

I'm suspicious of nationalists, or anybody who needs to belong to a group to feel good about themselves. But nationalism isn't always racism. I know some Indian anglophiles as well as black British patriots, so yup, nationalism isn't always to do with whether or not your skin colour matches th majority of those around you.

Sounds like she is just very patriotic to me...

Now my grandparents they can be racist at times but I guess thats just down to being from a completely different generation as I don't even think they realise it.

for christ sake. this is not racist at all. It just patriotic as many people mention. She just wants her favourite team to win. I would the same if i was a fan of a certain sport.
