I guess it depends on how hard you're prepared to work really and how used you are to deadlines.

i guess. WOO GERMAN! passed by 1 mark

Its not a great deal harder you just need to do better, the 40% you needed in the first year is just not good enough in the 2nd year

Nice
Is 63% in the first year good enough...? I do plan to put more effort in, I could have worked harder last year.

Well, it will be harder, there is no doubt about that, but of course more will be expected of you and you can't simply "pass" on 40%. (Well, you can, but then what's the point?)
Reply 7
It depends on your course and University, don't you think? My second year was a thousand times easier.

that's what everyone says, they said the same thing with AS to A2
Not massively harder, but it probably seems it since it is generally worth a fair bit of your degree and everyone steps it up a little bit. The big difference is in final year, but the smart way to do it would be to blitz second year and make your life a bit easier... not that i followed my own advice in that respect

If you're using the same mark scale as us then that'd be a 2.1 so I think that's pretty good! The last 2 years I've been in the high 60's and I'm pretty happy with that.
Depends on your subject and what you find difficult, I'd have thought.

I did Economics and my second year was a KILLER compared to first and third year. But that's because they shoved in a hella load of maths, econometrics and stats which I didn't want thank you.

I got 72% in first year but I'm freaking out about second year because I found first year quite stressful and pushed myself to the limit. I was ill a lot in first semester and the idea of it being even harder scares me but the language students I've spoken to have said they enjoyed second year more because the modules are better :s-smilie: I am excited about sociolinguistics but I had burnout at the end of my last year so haven't revised as much as I should have this summer...

Haha, sorry. My first year was a total doss because it was just like redoing A Level, so I got into serious party mode as the year went on.

Unfortunately, party mode didn't end when my first year did... and trying to keep that up while doing second year Economics was almost impossible. If I hadn't been going out it probably wouldn't have been that bad. Although I really really hate stats.
watch for all the students who barely scraped passes in 1st year, come 2nd year its always "my course is so badly structured/lecturers don't care/inaccessible/why don't they give me an extension" etc etc
I imagine it will be like every year, its harder than the year before but if you keep up with the work i doubt you will feel it to bad. Can you remember when the thought of doing GCSEs was kinda intimidating, than AS than A2etc.

This!

I don't see why many people just see the first year as getting 40% and that's alright! Because when they get into year 2, they're going to have to overcome so many bad habbits they've picked up during year one. That or they'll not do as well as they should... and then start blaming others.
I found it to be a huge jump (1st year to 2nd yr) and I am in fact dreading 3rd year!

My advice: just work your sock off!
Looking at my courses it seems like a step up work wise with more essays and tighter deadlines. I worked hard last year but want to push myself a little more this year to try and get slightly better marks. Yet, at the same time, I want to join some new societies and I have organised some paid employment alongside my voluntary work. I think it is going to be a busy year!
