The Official TSR INSOMNIACS Society

I have read countless times on here of people who don't sleep or have problems with sleeping. And if you're like me and can stay up for more than 24 hours, then join the official TSR Insomniacs Soc, either pm me or tell me in this thread, thanks!

First here's a few Facts about insomnia
*Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterised by the inability to fall asleep or having frequent periods of waking up in the middle of the night.
*There can be problems during the day, such as sleepiness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and irritability.
*Causes of acute insomnia could be; significant life stress e.g. death of a loved one, illness, environmental factors interfering with sleep, jet lag etc...
*Causes of chronic insomnia could be; depression, chronic stress, discomfort at night etc...

Feel free to chat and moan about insomnia,
Share your tips on how to get a good nights sleep,
Share your reviews of past products (sleeping pills) you've used,
Tell us what you do and how you feel during those hours where everyone else is asleep.

Good sleep habits can help you get a good night's sleep.
For example:

1) Try to go to sleep at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning. Try not to take naps during the day because naps may make you less sleepy at night.

2) Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol late in the day. Caffeine and nicotine are stimulants and can keep you from falling asleep. Alcohol can cause waking in the night and interferes with sleep quality.

3) Get regular exercise. Try not to exercise close to bedtime because it may stimulate you and make it hard to fall asleep. Experts suggest not exercising for 3 hours before the time you go to sleep.

4) Don't eat a heavy meal late in the day. A light snack before bedtime, however, may help you sleep.

5) Make your sleeping place comfortable. Be sure that it is dark, quiet, and not too warm or too cold. If light is a problem, try a sleeping mask. If noise is a problem, try earplugs, a fan, or a "white noise" machine to cover up the sounds.

6) Follow a routine to help relax and wind down before sleep, such as reading a book, listening to music, or taking a bath.

7) Avoid using your bed for anything other than sleep or sex.

8) If you can't fall asleep and don't feel drowsy, get up and read or do something that is not overly stimulating until you feel sleepy.

9) If you have trouble lying awake worrying about things, try making a to-do list before you go to bed. This may help you to "let go" of those worries overnight.

only during exam time (ie now). It takes me about an hour to fall asleep, partly due to the fact i'm thinking of a lot in bed. Seems to help though, i worry more before sleep, and have no worries the following day
