Hi, could someone who has this paper please take a look at Question 5(b)... Its about a pencil in a recessed shelf of a car and why it hits the back while accellerating, and the front whil decellerating.... anyone know why???
THe pencil is accelerating forwards...since f=ma...a force is needed...this comes from the back of the shelf pushing forwards...when at the front of the shelf the pencil is decelerating...again F=ma...it needs a force...this comes from the front of the shelf pushing backwards....this Q isnt about inertia...and a mark for clarity hehe
its all down to conservation of momentum, and the fact that the pencil doesnt have breaks to stop at the same time as the car, it need a force to help it decelerate or accelerate.. as mackin boi mentioned.
issit ok if you paste the direct download link because i downloaded "selected numerical answers" they are indeed selected answers and not the full answers.
