Glasgow Vet Interview

Hey

I applied for both edinburgh and glasgow vet schools and had my interviews early this year was unbelievingly accepted 4 both after being rejected at first for edinburgh.

Just wondering how u guys found this years interview at either Glasgow or Edinburgh? Was it how you expected it would be? I was just curious what sort of qs others got asked?

I remember how nervous i was took me abt 5 mins to lock my house door in the morning! Before i had my interviews i was scared shitless by others emphasising hw hard they were cos vet sch has always had rep of being impossible to get in but always worth a shot. 2 be honest no one really had hope for me even my guidance teacher at sch has tried to put me off 4 past 6 yrs.

Glasgow

I remember describing glasgow interview 2 one to girl waiting after me as "like having a cup of tea with your gran" i felt so at ease after the initial deadly 1st question wot happened 2 ur grades? Also as i had interest in zoo and exotic wildlife asked me abt whether i thought zoos were cruel? also gt animal testing Q, asked about lambing? As i worked in coffee shop how did i deal with difficult customers/stress? Qualities vet should have? What i thought would be difference between uni and sch would be? Wot small animal ops have i seen? Thats all can remember at moment. How cruel was it to put a huge plate of choc biscuits infront of us?

Edinburgh- No offence to anyone that preferred it 2 glasgow

Well iv never felt so stupid in my whole life i could barely string words together in this interview didnt help that my 1st choice glasgow had given me an offer before arrived there suppose. Wot a contrast to the 2 interviews. Way they were sat was abt 2m away from me so felt like i was shouting, they told me that vets had one of the highest suicide rates and after me saying hw passionate i was abt it said well ur opinion will change after yrs on the job. i was so confused why they were trying to put me off as if they would. Qs got asked were way more in depth like name and describe 5 diseases that are transferrable to humans and their affect on animal? Asked to name and describe worms in animals and prevention against? Asked if thought was fair the belgian blue cow bred 4 size? Asked abt pet passports? Cnt remember rest but i was kinda in shock after it i thought i knw my stuff b4 walked in there but didnt like way they looked at me throughout tho. Anyway you can c my preference was glasgow.

Sorry i cnt seem 2 keep anything short iv waffled

Hey there, I applied to both and much prefered my Edinburgh interview to my Glasgow one - was accepted to both but have chosen Glasgow as my first choice. I was reallly really nervous about my Edinburgh interview as I had it first but less so at my Glasgow one

Edinburgh
They were really friendly, the questions were quite in depth ( I got the one about diseases that can be transferred between animals and humans) but they didnt seem to mind if u didnt know it all, as long as you had a rough idea. They did seem genuinely interested in what I was saying.

Glasgow
This started badly, there was nobody at reception, i didnt know where to go and they were late! They didnt seem to be interested in what i was saying, and asked me kind of strange questions, nothing very vetty! I think I may have paniced slightly beacuse it was completely different to what I had expected!

I suppose everyones experiences will have been different but neither of the interviews were as bad as I expected them to be, although i didnt enjoy my Glasgow one very much, it didnt put me off going there, as at the open day it seemed fab!

Haha! For my interview there last year it was shortbread
My experience was a little more like Horsecrazy.

Glasgow

I don't know if I would have got an offer from Glasgow as I cancelled my application before they gave me an answer. This was because I had got an offer from my first and second choice unis and I knew that I would not be happy at Glasgow. The Glasgow interview, for me, was filled with indistinct question with no real answer. How did you feel...? What did you enjoy...? I was only asked ONE fact-based question - what are cats vaccinated against? Also, I was not interviewed by a practising vet but by one researcher and one wee woman in the admissions office  I'm sorry - my vets say Glasgow is lovely, you all say Glasgow is lovely, but the minute I left the interview I knew it was my last choice. Not only was my work experience not mentioned but the interviewers actually seemed hostile about me taking four Advanced Highers: "Why on earth did you bother with four AH?"

Edinburgh

Edinburgh was much nicer (although Cambridge was by far the most enjoyable of my interviews). I was asked lots of 'proper' questions with right or wrong answers plus I got a sense that the interviews may have had some personality. I was able tp demonstrate who I was and what I knew, rather than feeling like I was being interviewed for a womans' magazine. I was asked about my work experience and various diseases. I walked out smiling thinking "yes, HERE I could be happy."

Sara - where else did you apply? Where did you accept?

Glasgow
I loved Glasgow so so so much. They didn't ask me much about veterinary stuff, just about where I thought veterinary med was headin. Loads about myself. I laughed til I cried as did they-was just class craic.

Edinburgh
This was my fourth interview and their first question was 'Where else have you got offers from?' I had from liv, glas and cam so basically after that the whole mood changed and I got terrible questions about what tetanus microbes secrete onto the soil etc. At one point the interviewer said 'can we just move on?' because it was horrible. I ended up getting an interview but I think it was because everywhere else had given me one and they thought I wasn't too bad. Cam is first choice while edin is second. 3 a's out of my four for cam and abbb for edin which was the offer i wanted.

I applied for only Scottish vet schools.
Got 2 conditionals both BB from Glasgow and Edinburgh
Also applied for Zoology at Aberdeen and Vet Nursing at Napier
In end accepted 1st) Glasgow Vet Med 2) Vet Nursing Napier
Fingers crossed dont have to do 2nd choice id prob get so frustrated and end up trying to take over the vets job but chose it cos would still be working wi animals.
