Letters... even pargraphs missed

when im writting.. (not so much on a computer for sumreason...most likely spell check) i mix words up and stick the together
say like Get off - Geff... but when i read it i don't see the problem.
also other small thinks like writting OLB instead of OLD...
those arnt so bad...

Repeating Lines (entire lines not just 1 or 2 words) or paragraphs.. or completely missing out huge chuncks and not seeing the problem when i read back over.
i had so much stick from teacher is school saying my proofreading is aweful and i rush to much.
thing is i don't rush. i just have to write fast cause if i dont get down what im thinking ill probably forget it lmao. ive always been a fast writting.. but thats the same when i dont skip out huge chunks.

i tried slowing down but this made things alot worse
my dad stil mess's things up to... like welcom insted of welcome... to missing out big chuncks.

they said it was something that began with an A.. and was a type of dyslexia... but cause its random and doesn't happen all the time its hard to spot.
i can't ask my dad with him not being here so can any one shed a little light??

only word springing to my mind is 'alexia'? but that doesn't seem to fit what you describe exactly..
i really cant remember but it was like am or something.

i told my form tutor at college i have trouble with it but is always got dismissed they said my work was fine i just needed to proofread more.... which was very VERY irratating to hear all the time as i proof read about 5 times

I do the first one. Adding extra letters to words, or whatever. Not that huge a problem, but it can really be an arse in the last minutes of exams. And it also happens when speaking sometimes, which isn't great.
i have an aweful stutter some times. and words just come out jumbled and its like.. hmm im sure that word wasn't meant to sound like that lol
i've thought of that but teachers are used to me and half the time think im faking it.

i hope next year i get a new forum tutor if not ill ask some of the other teachers there

when i started english lit i said i might have some problems. could they get back to me...

im going to have to try harder still i geuss lol
I have the strange problem, when i write or type, i'll be thinking of what i'm going to say next and i'll end up writing that instead of what i was meant to be writing.

like if i was to type "My name is Craig, and i am a student"
i could end up "My name is Craam a student"

It gets annoying

"attention" has been hypothesised as a cause of dyslexia type problems.. but in a more subtle, underlying mechanism type way rather than lack of attention as in 'not trying hard enough'. if that makes sense?

Brown Eyed Girl, try & get yourself assessed - get your parents to write in or something..? while at school your LEA have a duty you give you a special educational needs (SEN) assessment. & if there is a diagnosis then there might be all sorts of things that could help (phonological training, filters/overlays, fish oils etc.)

i think you might have done it slightly in ur signature
thanx everyone really.
i will get my mum to write in.
i know in secondary school it was ignored.... they simply gave me a choice.. i could be in top set and be entered for the higher exams and get no help for it
or i could go into a bottom set with top marks being C's and D's and get help

lol

I think im with you, however, I didnt intend to come across as not trying haard enough, just an annoying case of consistenty losing concentration:smile:

it's hard to explain (my supervisor & i have just been discussing it! ) - but basically there's overt "paying attention" i.e. trying to concentrate/looking at something etc. & then more subtle attentional mechanisms when doing something like reading, which will probably influence how we serially search text and shift our eyes along while fixating on given points etc. - which is something we tend to do subconsciously.. but some people are better at controlling their eyes in this way tha others.

& there may be defects in the brain pathways that provide the input for this 'attentional spotlight' moving in dyslexics. hmm, did that make any more sense? :p:

& flashette, i doubt it for the exam season underway, given the amount of time an educational psychologists report will take to prepare.. & these are what's needed for exam concessions, AFAIK.

but just in general - given there have been quite a few members worried about their reading of texts/numbers etc. just to reiterate - reading is difficult! it's a far "newer" thing for humans to be doing than merely speaking & it's arguably not as innate as language, but a cultural invention, so it's to be expected that there will be a continuous scale of ability at it..! & until recently-ish the majority of society wouldn't even be expected to be able to do it.. that said - if you think you're having particular difficulties.. please talk to someone at school about it & they should have mechanisms in place for helping.
plus more time in exams would drive me mad!

i think i allready mentioned i finish things faster.

its not a fact that it takes me to long to do it its just when i do it weird things seem to happen and when i re read it my brain tells me all is good and fine

one thing i have noticed resently tho.. my reding is slowing down dramaticaly.
i used to read about as fast as i think and write.. but now i can't read and take in fast...
