London LLM's--Advice on School pls

Hi, I am an American who applied to the LLM Programmes at UCL, King's College, Queen Mary and Uni of Westminster. I know their law school admissions are competitive (at least for the three Londons I mentioned above), but isn't it a little easier to get into the postgrad courses? I have average grades from a US lawschool and average grades from a US college (not really top of the class). But I have great references (one from a judge I worked for, other from a professor), I went to a top 20 college, and I've worked for 2 yrs as a litigator. Will those factors help me get it? I also wrote a personal statement that I thought was good.

Also, what is Westminster like? I know it's not UCL, etc., but its LLM Programmes look really interesting. I would like to go there if I didn't get into the others.

Hello Wahoowa,

Of the four you picked UCL and King's are probably the best, with QM third. You might want to find out if there is a possibility of taking courses from LLMs at other colleges?; in theory everyone is part of the University of London anyway. A lot depends on the specialisation of the LLM as different colleges have reputations for different areas. References and work experience will help you, but your grades will be the most important I suspect. Do they ask to see LSAT score? Getting in as a postgraduate is not necessarily easier than for an LLB as there are fewer places and more competition from international applicants.

All I know about Westminster is that their law school is fairly central (so are UCL and KCL of course).

Good luck with your applications. What law school were you at?
It doesn't matter what school you apply for on London'd LLM by virtue of being truely intercollegiate I thought.

Yes, you are right NDGAARONDI. I have a friend who did the LLM at King's. From what I remember, of the four units she had to complete, she must pick at least two from King's (her "home" college), and the other two can be from any of the other UoL London colleges, if she so wished. QM is strong in commercial law/IP, and I believe she picked an IP course from QM, and one other course from UCL.

The only thing that really matter is what college you would like to see appear on your degree certificate. But they are all from London university (except for Westminster of course, which is not part of UoL)
