Okay so I only got one A*, just wondering which universities put less weight on the GCSE's than others?

Cheers

Hey,

My GCSEs aren't too bad but they're not great. I have heard many people talking as I browse saying to each other 'apply to unis that don't place a great emphasis on GCSEs' but never have I seen a list of these unis, so I thought I would ask in a thread and hopefully see which ones they are. I know they have requirements on their prospectus but they aren't always strictly true

The list:
UCL
BSMS
Southampton
Aberdeen
Peninsula
Hull-York
Barts (UKCAT cut off ~630+)
Manchester

Disclaimer: This list is by no means accurate, it has just been made through the opinions of the people posting on this thread.

Don't they have like a 8 A* requirement?

5 A/A*, which is quite reasonable

If you were to get AAAB at the end of AS...would it still be worth applying at BSMS

A lot of the info on this will be pretty outdated as it's mainly from 2009, I know for a fact that Leicester have completely changed their admissions policy, not sure about BSMS.
The important thing is to be predicted at least AAA, so if you're predicted that, theoretically you should be fine for most unis.

Glasgow didn't seemed bothered as long as I met the requirements.
Also Barts was all down to my UCAS points (after the ukcat cut off) so my GCSE's were pretty irrelevant there.

Hey mate,

Do you know if Barts are more lenient with UCAS points at A2 if you've already got them - if all goes as planned, I will have A*A*Aab = 510 UCAS points.

Basically, would I have more of a chance at getting an interview at Barts compared to someone who's predicted 510 UCAS points?

Cheers!

No, as far as they're concerned predictions = achieved results.
I had 520 and got an interview
I think 500 (A*AAA) was their cut off for interview.
sorry bud.

Ouch - at least it's good that I found out now rather than later

Do they actually count A levels taken over 3 years. I.e. I've got AAAa already within 2 years but an extra A-level which I took over 3 years. Is that one counted towards the UCAS tariff?

No idea - I don't they would count it, as it would mean that re-applicants would have an unfair advantage :s-smilie:

Try emailing the admissions office though :yy:
