Should i do medicine im confused? Need advice

Ok so im in year 11. Got my GCSES coming up and ive been wondering what would i liek to do with the rest of my life...

I just found out from another thread how much doctors earn and its a hell of a lot of money. Fair enough junior doctors earn very little but everyone starts somewhere....

My motivation is not the money...Trust me if it was i wouldnt do it...

Anyways ive always wanted to be a doctor but a part of me dosent. I mean not dosent but feels what if i dont suceed. Or do i want to have to work hard for 5 years at university. I hear doing medicine is not hard anyone can do it but its a lot of hard work. (my sister whose doing medicine told me that shes in 5th year now)

Im going to talk to her about this obviously

I read a apllicants profile and he said dont do it unless your 100% certain im at 95% right now...

I dont know why im scared but im worried what if im not able to finish etc.

Is it really alot of hard work? I mean if you organise yourself is it really that hard? Do you have to study everyday? My sisters very last minute so she starts 1-2 months before and reads for hours on end.

Did anyone else go through this doubt?

Im sorry? What exactly is the problem? Are you afraid you won't be able to do it?

What you rather be doing? Do you actually like medicine and sciency stuff? Of course medicine is hard, like practically any other vocational degree... Just go with your gut instinct and what your GSCE's were like?

You have another Year to decide. no rush. You must be 110% sure you want to do it. Otherwise the workload will kill your motivation.

 Have faith. It seems the uni that accepted you clearly think you will be good enough to be a doctor.. Congrats.

OP on the other hand, is looking a bit early?

I don know what is the problem thats the problem.....I want to be a doctor and if i decide not to do it il be devastated but at the same time i dont know if i really want to do it. What if i dont make it is my problem..What if i dont like it....
I like science...My favorite subject

Im interested in the human body. I like the idea of fixing people up. As in finding out whats wrong with them. I might potentially want to go into research after doing medicine as i like the idea of trying to find cures to diseases.

I know it might stupid but oh well......

You're not even finished your GCSE's :p:

Relax, it takes time. Just make sure you get work experience, it is actually really surprising what you can learn from it.

Get through your AS exams then see if you still want to do medicine.

I decided I wanted to do medicine mid-way through year 11. I got decent GCSE results and have taken the relevent subjects etc. Science is my thing, I'm a bit of a geek haha.

I know that I want to do medicine 100% but I do get doubts sometimes. Mainly about having no back-up if it all goes wrong (it won't hopefully ).

Then I also consider the life I'll have and that makes me doubtfull. Its not the workload, even though I know I have no idea what it'll be like, its the more social aspects. Having my own life outside of being a doctor is something that is also important to me. I can't imagine it having no idea what it'll be like if you get me?

Still, I'm extreamly dedicated and guess I'll have to take life as it comes (haha cheesy )

I'd be prepared to take it back if you can explain to me how it's physically possible to be anything over a 100% sure.

Don't base your decision on an applicant's profile. It's your life.

I mean, everyone has doubts about doing medicine. I'm applying this year, and a while ago, I had serious doubts about it.

If you're reasonably intelligent, the work will of course be tough, but hopefully not unmanageable. After all, thousands of others can cope with it, so why couldn't you?

From reading your posts, I get the impression (could be wrong :p:) that you want to do medicine, but for some reason, don't feel as if you are sure enough about it. I think those are normal feelings, which a lot of people have.

That's a load of tosh. Nobody can be completely certain until they are actually doing it. And there's not a single honest person who doesn't have doubts at some point, whether it's about their capabilities or their commitment. Hell, I do all the time, and I haven't even started yet.

Do as much work experience as you can, and try to get a good picture built up about the world of medicine. Then you'll have a better idea of whether you want to do it or not. But you'll never be certain, there's no formula for working out how good at it you'll be - if you want it badly enough, you'll just have to take a leap of faith.

Do you see yourself doing the job for, say, 10 years consecutively?

If you still can't decide, flip a coin. If you're disappointed with the result, you have your answer.

That is true, but thats not the only way to get to do things, I've always thought about becoming a doctor but never really had the balls to try.

It wasn't until I got to my 2nd year at my 6th form college with everything but U's in my AS levels - apart from General Studies that everyone knows is all a load of bull****

So instead of continuing on in my AS and having to retake I took up the Nursing course I'm doing now at Diploma level at uni.

I won't say its easy but I'm enjoying it and tbh I don't think I wanna become a doctor now as I enjoy it too much.

But just keep optimistic, like other people have said your only just doing your GCSE's you've still got a little bit of time to think over what you wanna do, remember no one else except you can choose what you wanna go on to do!
