TV license, I don't see how they can legally send round a enforcer to my flat at uni.

You are a retard...

Blindly following something, just because 'its the law' is quite daft.

And blindly going against the law because you fancy yourself a maverick, anarchist and rebel is equally as daft.

I'm glad we've come to an agreement.

Blindly following anything is stupid.

Paying for a service, isn't stupid.

Um no i was at work. It's what the grown ups do.

yes but what grown ups dont do is insult people who dont agree with them, grown ups are able to have a proper conversation without resorting to insults, but dont worry you'll get there one day

I quite fancy myself as a maverick. Neither you, dear Trigsy, nor The Man will get me down.

What about if the only thing you want to watch on bbc is mock the week and match of the day. Are you suggesting we pay 130 quid for that!! Because I'm not chipping in for Jonathon Ross's new car.
The way i see the BBC is like when you were a kid and you're off school ill and your mum gves you some medicine which you HATE the taste of but you have to take.
The BBC is giving you a public service whch you don't want, but you need because it is beneficial to you.

Do you really think that commercialising the BBC will do any good? Not only would it add to the 999+ channels of c**p that populates Sky but it would help turn the population of this country into brainless vegetables.

But those who don't like the license fee are generally those who don't like education in general - that's why they watch commercial TV - no decent educational documentaries or current affairs programmes.
I'm not getting one.

TV for PS2 and GameCube.

Laptop for iPlayer, 4OD and Sky Player

Are you extracting the urine?. How is it a public service when their are commercial alternatives. You know sooner or later you and the rest of the BBC lovers are going to be kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

I don't give two monkeys what they do to it so long as people like you who want it pay for it while others get the choice to tell them what to do.

You'll find far more educational programming on the commercial channels however that wouldn't fit in with you're pitch.

Thats just two channels but we have the whole world at our feet while being forced to fund the one broadcaster you happen to love

The British public are not children, and they most certainly do not 'need' what you think is good for them. Even if you were going to go down this line, I certainly think the last thing one could be said to 'need' is television: I grew up without a television in the house; I certainly don't feel the worse for it.

It seems centuries of liberal philosophy have just passed you by. I wasn't aware anyone held such ridiculously paternalistic views outside of ancient Greece.

Utter rubbish and a ludicrous generalisation? I see we've about found your level.
Oh ffs why is there 12 whole pages on this? I agree with Trigger tbh.

Besides which, it's not that hard. If you don't want a TV licence/can't afford one, then don't get a TV. Simple. If you want to watch a TV (in real time), get a licence... otherwise there's always Iplayer/4OD etc, which doesn't require a licence.

:o: I suppose it depends on how important TV is to you. After all, he might have a dream that one day his children can watch TV without being forced to pay the BBC....:mmm:

How about we just scrap the whole BBC and you "people" can throw you're televisions out. You know this whole thing is just annoying the hell out of me now. Why the hell should we subsidise what YOU happen to enjoy watching. If YOU think it's so good then YOU pay it via a voluntary subscription instead of being selfish to-wards the vast majority of the British public.

Christ I've never seen so many arrogant, selfish and scrounging people as the BBC supporters who demand a whole country subsidise Eastenders for them

I just came across this thread - yeah, in a situation going back to uni thinking do I really want anoher payment risk it? dont they warn you before action is taken?
I believe the american tv networks are much better and it is about the only thing I agree with Piers Morgan about.I decided not to have a TV licence to make a political statement regarding the BBC's biased newscoverage ,I explained this on the phone when I canceled my licence.I got an acknowledgement letter.

Yet I get some silly woman at my front door sunday afternoon (yes sunday FFS) loudly telling me I had broken the law as I had been watching TV without informing them about not having a licence. She then tried to get me to sign something. I refused but let her see into the front room to prove theres not a TV there . We woke up a mate sleeping on my couch who called her a fascist which was excellent. I then shoved the letter I got from them under her nose and said sort out your communication skills and if she or anyone else comes back I will be going to the Police about harrassment.

That experience has hardened my attitude towards the BBC. I imagine if I had been a single mum or some poor elderly person she could have bullied me into signing that form that she thrust in my face.
