Imagine you are in the woods, and you notice that there is a squirel sitting on the tree next to you. As soon as the squirel notice you it imediately climbs to the oposite side of the tree. Now, lets say you walk around the tree, but at the same time the squirel keeps on climbing to the oposite side. After you have walked one full turn around the tree, have you then also walked around the squirel?

But I certainly circled the tree, and the squirel was at the tree all the time. So I must have circled it.

Yes you did. The squirrel's localised destination was on the tree, which has been circled. Therefore you have circled the squirrel in its entirety.
