ALL THOSE WHO WANT JUSTICE, COME FORWARD AND BE COUNTED.
The well being of this country needs you.

This move was prompted by the idiot that posted this thread.
Basically he got assaulted on a bus, got names shouted at him, and he "felt sorry" for the thugs that did it because they "probably" had a rough upbringing.

    Ask yourself:
    - Are you sick of leaving the house, concerned that your ipod might get stolen, or that you might get "happy slapped" by a gang of idiots from 'da hood'?
    - Do you think schools are too easy on bad pupils?
    - Are you annoyed when you read about dirty women parading around nightclubs stirring fights between men with a brain the size of a garden pee?
    - Do you think the police should have more power when dealing with chavs?
    - Do you think Tony Blair is too soft on criminals?
    - Tired of rapists strolling out of prison after a couple of years? and Would you like to see some real justice in our legal system?

If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, then you should join the Authoritarian Movement.
More people fear crime than ever before, and I, like so many others, want to see faith restored into our legal system one and for all.

No liberal crime-apathetic loonies in this thread thanks.
This is a thread for all us crime-apathetic loonies. If you have that terrible condition whose syptoms include caring for those less fortunate than ourselves, trying to understand and help trouble makers, and even disagreeing with the death penalty, then it may be best to confine yourself to this thread, in order to stop your condition from spreading.

    Or, better put:

Why does your thread title have the word libertarian in it? Your not libertarians, your socalists. You seem to be hijacking the term, just like left wingers hijacked the term liberal.

Seriously, guys I happen to be quite fond of the word Libertarian. In fact I consider myself to be one. But I don't "care for those less fortunate for myself". That's the point, Libertarianism is letting people have their liberties (eg the liberty to be gay and adopt children... ) and not caring too much about what other people get up to as long as it doesn't affect you. Caring is a completely different concept, as someone rightly said, it is nothing but the commmon dirty diseased socialism.

There is no such thing as a left libertarian. All libertarians are staunch individualists, and one cannot be a libertarian if one doesn't think that every individual is responsible for their own problems.

    Sorry, there is.

'''Libertarian left' is the name given to a political group or individual who has left wing economic opinions and believes in minimal state intervention in people's live''

I agree with the point about the definition of a Libertarian, I also consider myself to be one. However, I think that the fact that I also 'care for those less fortunate' does not, in itself, make me a Socialist. I think that if you wish to correct others use of a word, you should also be careful with regard to your usage of the term 'socialist'.

It's a term that is used in one political compass.

And how exactly can one be a socialist and believe in minimal state intervention in people's lives?

Thanks for the clarification, seem to have misplaced my brain this afternoon!

I believe strongly in the Welfare State system, rehabilitation for offenders, equal access to education and so on. You may say that this contradicts my statement that I am a Libertarian as, of course, this involves state intervention in people's lives. If you were to say this, you would be correct. However, I believe myself to be an advocate of civil liberties, with the belief that the state should not unnecessarily 'poke their nose' into the individual's business (for example, I am strongly opposed to ID cards). I am not a Socialist as I do not wish for a classless society (which I think it would be fair to say is one of the fundamentals of Socialism). I do care for others, and I try to understand where people's problems stem from, as opposed to taking a hard line Authoritarian view.

I find it extremely hard to categorise myself in terms of my political leanings, which is probably obvious from the above rambling

As I already mentioned, the key tenet of libertarianism is individualism. According to that ideology, the government should create equal opportunity, not aim for equal (or anything close to equal) results. Redistribution of income is, by definition, not libertarian. As Milton Friedman pointed out, you cannot have political freedom without economic freedom, and limiting economic freedom by large-scale government intervention in the economy, will decrease the amount of liberty enjoyed by the people. You cannot logically support the creation of a large government and then complain when it decides to use its power.
