I'm more unhappy simplicity still has my name wrong on first post!

In other news, anyone fancy helping me with the two starred questions on taylor series. I got so far with them, but not getting any luck at all or think I'm possibly doing the right method.

I hate how our example sheets follow on very little from lectures.

edit: wrong jpg, hangon xD
While you're finding the right JPG, why don't you post it in the right forum as well?

 Cos the other 75 pages of this thread don't contain any people asking questions.

Wasn't in any urgent rush nor did I feel it needed it's own thread, so I just thought I'd post it here.

From the forum sticky:

DFranklin
This University Mathematics forum is for discussion of mathematics that is specifically to do with studying at university.

That is, for questions like "Do you think I would enjoy a Maths degree", or "Should I apply to Warwick or Imperial?", or "Is it possible to change to maths from physics after one year?".

It is not for questions like "How do you integrate exp(-x^2)?". The correct forum for those questions is the Maths Forum that is part of the "Study Help" set of forums.

Even if you think "But this is a university level problem", the Maths Forum is still the correct place.
DFranklin, you are incredibly rude to certain members yet will gladly bend the rules and whatnot for others. :frown:

Just an observation.
Any recent maths graduates out there?

I graduated in July and find myself wishing I was still learning maths. Something good will come up on jobs.ac.uk some day...
I've come to the conclusion I really dislike my uni notes, so am hunting down other uni notes on same topics  Seem to be much clearer explanations and more examples given.

What is the test based on in calculus, because I hate to get a question on div or curl. As I don't really understand what the hell they are.

The lectures notes are good for multiple integration, also I like the lecturer teaching us. He seems really fun. Espically, when he wakes up sleeping people or shouts out Tom in the middle of the lecture and he is not there.

HAHAHAHA OMG that was amazing!

"I heard tom was complaining that I was going too slow" "TOM! TOM! Show yourself, raise your hand!" "he's not even here!!!" That was hilarious.

"I like it when you laugh as that means your enjoying maths" or whatever he said, when clearly the group was having a good laugh about something else.

His pronunciation of EVERY word wrong and his constant questions of "erm... whats the name of a 3 sided shape again... what do you call it" "ah yes a triangle" keep me entertained, but it's hard to hear him properly or follow him at times. Quite entertianing. I think I've cracked the basics of the questions I posted. However my answers aren't in the form of summations just an infinitely long list of .....'s :p:

The test on calc is week 6 - 10, therefore will be erm.. whatever we have covered. Definitely grad/curl/div though. If anything expect a lot of questions with that triangle thingy from what I've saw in past papers.

That will stop Tom complaining now. I don't know, but if I was Tom I wouldn't have put my hand up if I was there in the lecture.

Yeah, but that makes you focus more on what he is saying. Then you aren't doing it correctly. Just notice the pattern and then you would be able to get it in a finite expression. But, yeah I don't like taylor stuff that much as it needs to click and the one variable case didn't click in, however the two variable case seems much easier.

Yeah, I'm doing stats tomorrow and friday so will get it done by then. I hope.

Haha I guess he was there but wasn't going to say.
Well there is a pattern, in how the signs change and the bottom is increasing by one each time. but I wasn't sure how to write that in notation  Ah well, i've done enough
just reading through some random uni notes from elsewhere to try explain all this upside down triangle stuff! I still have NO idea waht the hell the symbol means or how to work anything out involving it. I feel it's not even explained in our notes..

Not bothering too much with this exam, got no chance after about 4hrs sleep so not going to put that much effort in. Concentrate for january

I'm doing stats tomorrow+gap thursday is my plan!

Hmm, I don't think its particularly the how the pattarn changes. In a way if I remeber correctly, all you really have to consider is when you have a combination of x and y because if you didn't then it would just disappear when differentiate and holding say x constant or the other way round.

For grad, just think of it as the surface of a function as a vector field. Its a bit weird, but wikipedia gives a good picture of it. But, I had to ask my calc tutor about picturing it and she said this.

Oh yeah, the weekend of Jedawar and drinking. Which, would be my worse nightmare as I get the biggest headache ever if I have on drink. Well, its only worth 7.5% and that is nothing if you think about it.

Coursework, I hope there is no misleading questions that are poorly worded on the sheet.

jedward + drinking + casino, so won't be hungover for monday as I don't drink at casino  So i'll be awake :p:

I've just found some stuff from oxford notes and some other random stuff, seems to make quite good sense  So shall have a read tomorrow and make sense hopefully!

I disagree with his stupid misworded question, we shouldda got full marks!

manchat > emochat. Although i'd probably catogerize myself somewhat Under the emo catogery (Thats a tough word to spell IMO).

On the note of gay/emo crap, 3 days till I see JEDWARD!

Gay jokes aren't funny.

P.S. Just to clear everything up we are all straight in this forum?

P.P.S. Anyway, I just found out that 90% of the spartan warriors where gay. Which, is weird. But, yeah women they lack the abillity to visualize stuff.

Classic simplicity.
..and it's very unlikely that everyone here is straight.

(No, I haven't worked out the p-values. Bugger off.)

But, women. If only there was a thing where other men got with other men.

It is hard to see how you can clams physics is just applied physics, because it does not seem possible to make any statement about the empirical world using only mathematics.

So you fall prey to your own criticism of mathematicians who tell illogical jokes. Tut tut. :wink2:
