    Hi all, I've just found a quote from Richard Aldington's 1929 novel Death of a Hero;

    "Winterbourne hated the war as much as ever...But he liked the soldiers, the War soldiers, not as soldiers but as men."

    I know theres some other famous quote which echoes this notion of 'hating the war but loving the soldiers' and wondering if anyone knows it?????

    ---- It may be a Sassoon poem, it sounds like Sassoonery.
