Is it acceptable to use double words?

Example: '..something i looked to to confirm my ambition...'

Personal statement context.

It is acceptable, it just isn't very stylish.

I understand words are gold, but 'something I looked to in order to confirm my ambition' flows better. Or 'something I consulted to confirm my ambition'.
