Hi all,
I guess this affects the mental health so hence why I am posting this into this forum.
Anyway, something that really frustrates me is my stammering. Now, I hardly stammer at all, but there are 2 words and phrases that I really do stammer over: Hello and my name!!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I have noticed that when I am stressed I do begin to stammer a fair bit.

My only advice would be to place less emphasis and try to mentally block the doubts you have over saying those two words to clear up the stammer.

My stutter goes away when I sing and whisper. Except when I'm whispering I still have pauses in my speech, even though I know what I want to say.

I find reading out loud to help with words I have a stutter with. Usually they're words I don't say very often, or haven't encountered before. Oh and I completely agree with the person above, too much emphasis on the word doesn't help me in everyday speech

Dear Members,

I am a third year university student studying speech and language therapy. I have an interest in stammering and hope to specialise in this area once qualified. As part of my degree I am conducting a research project looking at the “attitudes and feelings of people who stammer regarding their experiences in the workplace”.

I am looking for people who are currently working or have worked in the past to complete a short questionnaire to help me with my research. All of the information will be confidential and the questionnaire shall only be used for the purpose of this investigation. Your answers given will only be read by me and a university tutor. If you are interested in volunteering or would just like more information please email me at [email protected] and I will send you an extra participant information sheet.

Many thanks

I am exactly the same with names. I can usually get around my stammer just by using other words but its a bit difficult with my name lol. I would love to hear how other people have dealt with it.
It's so annoying, especially when people say it's confidence related, it isn't you could feel on top of the world and someone asks you your name...bam.

Instead of saying hello, why not use stuff like "howdy" or "Yo", people think you are being funny and they don't twig to the fact you have a stammer.
