I would say typically it's to two decimal points or three significant numbers but it depends on the situation, you may need more or you may need less.

what if there's no DP used in the question, just whole numbers?

You know, there's no definite answer to this. I think it depends entirely on what you're planning on doing with your results. Some things require you to be as accurate as possible and so you should use raw data or if you have a lot of data from testing multiple samples then you might want to use the average number of significant numbers in that data group.

And, at the end of the day, if the question or group of questions do not specify or hint to the number of significant numbers or decimal points or even ask for the answer to be rounded then you could probably just use the raw data you have.

if it is the final use of the data, then 3sf.
if not, then keep it and use it for whatever else u need it for and ur final answer should be to 3sf (at least thats what ive been taught)
