Freddie Mercury - The Great Pretender
    A great cover song.

Also I quite like G4's album, which is basically all covers.

I think a good cover song has to be different from the original yet still retain some of the passion and emotion, or something, that made the first song special.

If the MMJP as your screen name stands for "Musicman John Petrucci," then you my friend, are a genius.

Yeah, the Nightwish version of Phantom of the Opera kicks maximum ass. Lets see, if you're into punk music check these out:
    MxPx - Barbie Girl
The Ataris - Boys of Summer
Green Day - Time After Time
New Found Glory - The Ghostbusters theme

    I'd have to agree with:

    Johnny Cash - Hurt
    Muse - Feeling Good

    Both amazing.

I'd have to disagree with ANY good comments made about G4 however. How dare they touch a Queen song? And Bohemian Rhapsody? Come on! Also their version of Creep was enough to make me willing to put a bounty on their heads.

Speaking of Bohemian Rhapsody has anyone heard the version that Westlife did? I think it was just in concert but my friend downloaded it so maybe its available on some CD somewhere. Its truly awful. Secret to a good cover version = learn the words before you attempt it.

But I dont want to turn this into a we hate covers thread so I'll end with another good one:

    Pennywise - California Dreaming.

If you want covers, A Perfect Circle - eMotive, its a whole album of covers ... and its brilliant The best off it IMO is Imagine (John Lennon) - its really creepy, much better than the original. Also they play an Ozzy Ozbourne song live which is great

Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue eyes (The Who), its pretty naff but its okey for a listen.

Marilyn Manson's cover of Soft Cell's Tainted Love (which is itself a cover) is fantastic. Better than his cover of Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), in my opinion.

eva cassidy with 'time after time' and 'fields of gold'; both make me cry.
Sting's version of 'fields of gold' is amazing, but Eva Cassidy's version is just so different you cant compare them.
