They are amazing. They get you a 1/3 off the off-peak prices. If you're making a long trip you can pay it off in one go. I used it all the time and it saves so much money.

If you a fresher open a student account at NatWest and you will get it for free for 5 years, other than that it is still worth it if you train travel alot.
Do you travel by train a lot?

It's actually £26, and yes it's worth it. I travel a hell of a lot, so it saves me loads.

If you don't travel very much, there's little point in actually getting one.

So far it's easily saved me over £600 in the 3 years I've had one.

worth it! Wish I got it sooner
Worth it, it just pays for itself.

I already have an "Adapt" account so do you know if I can open another?
I paid for one last year to visit unis - got my money back in 2-3 journeys (not to mention the savings afterwards). I have a free one with Natwest now. If you think you will spend less than 78 quid on rail tickets in the next year then it's not worth it - under all other circumstances do it.

well thats true you can not, if you truly want to you will need to cancel the other acount to open the natwest one.

Yep - either upgrade that one - or if you want to keep it - open a new student account as well

EDIT: Oops sorry I thought you meant with natwest. Is adapt a student account?

I think so; its aimed at 16-18 and has very basic facilities (Solo debit card; no cheque book etc)

No it's not a student account that will interfere with natwest (I think). "Aimed at" does not equal student account - you should be able to get another with Natwest when you go to uni (requires that you have a confirmed uni place I think).
One remotely long distance train and it'll pay itself back in one journey. After that anything else is all bonus.
mine got sent through today =D
I think they're worth it - I just bought one

Hey, just wondering - is it actually worth buying a British rail card? Seems cheaper than other countries (£25) but are the reductions actually good or not?
Would check myself but the site isn't working (as usual).

a 1/3rd off the price and the more you use it the better, it will save a lot of money so is a good idea to get one

I'm going to go into the train station tomorrow with the form and buy one, anyone know if they do your card there and then, or send it in the post? I would like to use my discount tomorrow if I could

They'll do it at the ticket office. Make sure you take your passport or some ID
Very well worth it. My first trip with it paid for itself, it was 26 pounds and I saved almost 30 pounds going from cornwall to gatwick airport. Amazing.
