BYOB by System of A Down

Mogwai or Royksopp are the best to revise to I think. Mogwai in particular. Mogwai, Mogwai, Mogwai.
I would download 'Kids Will Be Skeletons'

Reise Reise rammstein, spieluhr - rammstein. great song, only really chilling if you understand German, but the tune for spieluhr is kind of chilling in itself.

- 14-06-2005 15:45
The Scientist... basically everything.

Royksopp - Sparks, In Space
Kings of Convenience - Everything. Well... Cayman Islands, Winning a Battle Losing the war, Summer on the Westhill, I Don't Know What I Can Save You From
Some Coldplay - Though it tends to develop in to something a bit noisy. What if?
Iron and Wine - Each Coming Night, Sunset Soon Forgotten
John Martyn - Bless the Weather, Solid Air, Go Down Easy (originals, not remasters)
That's a start

..Saying that, a majority of rammstein songs are melancholy and chilling.

how can sigur ros not have meen mentioned???
get ( ) on now.

Some of these have been mentioned already, but the overwhelming tiredness caused by doing nothing all day long prevents me from reading even 15 posts (yet, in some sort of twisted, selfishly masochistic irony, it doesn’t stop me from going through my entire music collection to find suitable songs).
Virtually the whole of Coldplay.
Kings Of Convenience – Misread, and Don’t Know What I Can Save You From( the Royksopp mix).
Jon Brion’s score from “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, esp. Peer Pressure, Elephant Parade, Phone Call and the Main Theme. Also from the same soundtrack, Beck’s “Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometimes” is very good.
Sigur Ros – esp. Agaetis Byrjun, Svegn G Englar, The Nothing Song and Staraflur.
Brian Eno – esp. The Big Ship and “Ascent/An Ending” (or something like that. It features in the 28 Days Later soundtrack”.
Paco De Lucia – Entre Dos Aguas.
Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Under The Bridge
Carter Burwell’s score for “The Man Who Wasn’t There”.
Cocteau Twins – The Thinner The Air.
Craig Armstrong – the whole of “Piano Works” and most of the songs from his earlier efforts “As If To Nothing” and “The Space Between”.
David Julyan’s theme from “Following” (if you can find it, that is).
De Phazz – No Jive.
Rob D – Furious Angels and I’m Not Driving Anymore (they both sound the same, anyway) + Clubbed to Death.
FC Kahuna – Hayling.
Gary Jules – Mad World.
God Speed You Black Emperor – East Hastings.
Hooverphonic – One and Mad About You.
Interpol – C’mere, Next Exit and Untitled.
Starsailor – Some of Us, Born Again and Fidelity.
James Newton Howard’s score for Unbreakable, esp. “Mr. Glass/End Titles”.
Jamiroquai – King For a Day and Corner of the Earth.
Karen O – Hello Morning (song in Jonze’s Adidas “Intelligent Shoe” ad).
Some of Ludovico Einaudi’s crap, though it all sounds the same.
Madonna’s “Drowned World”.
Massive Attack’s “Teardrop”.
Almost the whole of Moby’s “18” and “Play” albums.
Morcheeba – Blindfold and Otherwise.
Muse – Blackout.
Nancy Wilson – Elevator Beat (Vanilla Sky soundtrack).
Nine Inch Nails – Hurt (and/or Johnny Cash’s cover).
Some Oasis’ songs from their earlier efforts, e.g. Don’t Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall, Stand By Me, All Around the World, Sunday Morning Call etc.
Philip Glass’ score for “The Hours”, esp. the track named uhmmm “The Hours” + his “Solo Piano” album.
Radiohead – No Surprises, Creep, Karma Police, Pyramid Song, Let Down.
The introduction to Rammstein’s “Mein Herz Brennt”. The whole song is quite good but, apart from the intro, it’s not a prime example of soothing music.
Sakamoto’s “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” in any of its permutations.
Skin – Faithfulness and Trashed.
Spiritualized – Ladies and Gentlemen.
Travis – As You Are, Driftwood, Side.
Wilco – Hummingbird and Jesus Etc.
Most of U2’s crap.
Kudos to those who can study (effectively) with any of these in the background:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Art Star.
Aphex Twin – Let My Fish Loose.
Mint Royale’s Singing in the Rain Remix (from the vw Golf ad).
Philip Glass and Aphex Twin – Heroes Symphony.
Man, I really have nothing to do. Must go out.

portishead. definitely. nothing (well...almost nothing) beats beth gibbons' voice.
if you want specific songs...Glory Box and Numb are both rather good.
oh..and just remembered another one, DJ Shadow - Midnight in a perfect world.

Pretty much anything by The Thrills or Athlete. So sunny, and so mellow.
- 17-06-2005 00:36
Feeder - Just the way I'm feeling
Aerosmith - Angel
Aerosmith - I don't wanna miss a thing
Lemar - Time to grow
Gary Jules - Mad world
Just few of my picks.
