# The Official Edexcel S2 Revision Thread! (22/06/05 PM) watch

They can ask you an awful lot, although it is mainly just null and alternative hypothesis

This can be a one or two tailed test, though if it is a two tailed test the question is likely to give you a few prompts (i.e, to take significance level on each tail as close to 2.5% as possible)....there's not much to hypothesis testing really, learning the definitions from the chapter is a must, you do that and you will jump up at least half a grade...
can you go over, i.e. 2.7% is better than 2% when it says as close as?????
2. yes you can, as it usual has a 1 mark question after it saying 'calculate the overall significance level'....if it doesn't say anything...then you are going to have to bodge it, like me

great, thanks!
but what do you mean bodge it.. what is there to bodge
4. bodge is idiomatic in my science lessons for 'make up'....to bodge it is to guess it
5. Can anyone give me a text book definition of a null and an alternative hypothesis? Can't seem to find them in the book

thanks

sorry being really stupid, but what do you have to make up?
7. I posted it on here, think on first page, a few definitions there
8. Find P(|X-5|<2) ...can someone explain what that means? Is it the modulus?
9. |X-5| < 2 => -2 < X-5 <2 => 3 < X < 7.
That's what it means
10. ok thank you.
Is something like this likely to come up? It was in a solomon paper and I have no idea how to do it...

11. What does the phrase 'as bad or worse' mean (hypothesis testing)? - a value that is opposite to what the probability of the null hypothesis states?

ok thank you.

it cud technically come up..its in the S2 book!
13. questions a b and e could be asked without a problem but the other two, I dont think so!
14. anyone got a hunch of the writing aspect they might ask tomorrow?
might they ask us to talk about census seeing as it came up in Jan 05?

or anyone think that another type of question e.g. Multi-CDF might come up?

a MULTI-cdf?
wud u mind explainin wat exactly u mean?

yeah, what is a multi CDF?
17. A cumulative distribution function question involving more than one function
18. (Original post by KAISER_MOLE)
Continuous Uniform Distribution

E(X)= (a+b)/2

Var(X) = (b-a)²/2

where b and a are the upper and lower boundaries respectively
shouldn't that be (b-a)²/12
19. sorry - my teacher calls them "multi-part-PDF's"
Force of habit calling them that.
They can be quite tricky.

Do you think the paper will difficult?
20. (Original post by Featherflare)

Darn, was hoping everyone would use that so they got it wrong and the grade boundaries got lowered...ruining my plan, HOW DARE YOU

Will edit it pronto..
