best boy!!
hey, just wondering if anyone on here has been to uni but dropped out before finishing, if so, what did you do after? did you find it easy to get a job and did your employers look negatively on the fact you dropped out?

My brother dropped out last year (his 3rd year) he's got work and it doesn't seem to be a problem. You have to give a half decent reason on your covering letter as to why you either weren't enjoying your studies or you've changed your mind. The main problem is that some employers will think that because you've dropped out, you'll be applying to go again this year and try something different and many are reluctant to give jobs out as 'stop-gaps' as they don#t want to waste time training you for the sake of the 8 months before you go back to uni.

I dropped out after 1st year and got hired straight away. In the industry I'm in, all the successful millionaires are drop-outs
My friend droped out of uni this week, after being there for only 2 weeks!!! :frown:
so now shes been handed down her grandad's company, and will soon be making millions...

i don't think i'll be so lucky in my inheritance lol, but i'm dropping out after only two weeks too...it just wasn't what i really wanted to do, is it not hard to find a job though, given that you will be going up against loads of people who have degrees?...just wondering

well I'm currnetly on a gap year, and have no degree and I have a job...so you will find a job. did you do A levels? you can always work yourself up a career ladder, like starting as a cashier in tesco, up to the manager of that store...it is possible!!!
But yeah she is lucky, she was homesick, and me and another mate are on gap years, so I think she'll hang around for a bit, but I do see her going back to a closer Uni next year just to get a degree.
Have you thought of this?

i do have a levels, B in economics C in english lit and D in maths, so although they are not great i do have them!! its funny you should say to work at tesco because i have taken a year out and worked there full time (i worked the 2 years part time during my a levels) i can tell you that becoming store manager is very hard and its very cut throat! apparently they only get one year contracts so if they dont deliver then they're out in a year! my uni is quite close to home, about 1hr away, but its the idea of studying is not what i want to do at the moment

i dont think you'll have much problem going up against people with degrees personally. so many people go to uni these days that degrees arent really worth all that much, it's more about the work experience and other things that you've been doing outside of your studies. what kinda field are you hoping to enter? if you struggle to get a job right out, maybe try for some work experience?
i have a friend who dropped out of an accountancy degree half way through her first year, she now works as an apprentice in an accountancy firm! so even though she didn't get her degree, she still made it into the job she wanted to do. anything is possible. (:
I'm a uni dropout - would love to go back some day but have family priorities at the moment. I haven't tried to get a job though but lots of people get jobs after dropping out of uni it's not a huge deal.

how about travelling? get some really good life experience in and voulenteer, this always looks good on your CV.
I'm doing camp america next summer, and going to travel parts of Canada!
then maby by this time next year you might decide to do a 2yrs course in colelge/go back to uni/ have landed yourself a good job!!

I"m a university drop out. My life after hasnt been the best to be honest.....but I am older than most on here, so will have different priorities and might not have the opportunities that I imagine the younger contingent would have. I havent tried to look for work, as I am not qualified to do anything. I doubt my access certificate would get me a job anyway.

I"d quite like to gp back to uni though......but I dont know what I want to study.

oh wow i have to put in my two cents about travelling! DO IT. i spent my gap year (last year) travelling and changed so much i didn't go to uni this september at all as i'd planned. travelling is the best thing i've ever done in my life, i would recommend it to absolutly everybody. you'll meet awesome people, see amazing places you've only ever dreamed of - it seriously IS everything it's made out to be. do it do it do it! (:

btw, pinkmobilephone - your son is gorgeous! <3 congratulations!

i suppose your right work experience is also a pre-requisite for most jobs, to be honest it don't really know what field i want to head into, i was doing economics at uni but didnt like that, so i ruled out one career path, i was thinking something along the lines of admin, bursar or accountancy. i am trying to find voluntary work so can experience some of these fields

Plenty of people drop out of uni, and I think as long as you can present some good reasons for doing so (ie not "couldnt be bovvad to get up for lectures" ) I don't really see why it should disadvantage you for non-graduate jobs. Everbody should be allowed to change their mind.

i did a contiki tour of western europe, inter railed eastern europe, trek america in america (obv), and backpacked vietnam & cambodia with a friend (:

currently saving for australia, with a little bit of thailand and singapore on the way (: best thing ever!
Hi everyone  I just dropped out of uni after after finally admitting to myself that a degree in sociology was not what I wanted, neither was getting into 20k worth of debt in the process.
Does anyone else not have a clue what they want out of life?

I think there are lots of things to do without going to university.
