For some reason i can never remember the digestion of lipids, not sure why! it really confuses me. Has anyone got a good explanation of it or a good way to remember it?

    What confuses you about it?

lipase hydrolyses lipids to fatty acids and glycerol aka monoglycerides. Thats all i remember from module 1, i can't remember where it happens

Some of that hydrolysis to glycerol and fatty acids occurs in the stomach. Most of it will occur in the small intestine. The fatty acids and glycerol are absorbed through the villi of the epithelial cells of the small intestine. Here they recombine to form triglycerides. These triglycerides are combined with proteins to form chylomicrons, at the smooth endoplasmic reticulum, which are then transported in the lymphatic vessels present in the villi.

Micelles are formed the fatty acids and glycerol. Since they're water soluble they can pass through the membrane of an epithelial cell. It's then that they get repackaged into chylomicrons and pass out into a lacteal by a kind of exocytosis.

bile salts emilsify the fat to smaller droplets before the lipases can act.

Remember that before the action of lipase on the lipid, the triglyceride will be emulsified by bile salts. These are produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. They are released and enter the duodenum, via the bile duct, and begin the process of breaking down the tryglicerides into smaller droplets- hence increasing surface area for enzyme action.

and the release of bile is caused by the release of the hormone CCK, which is released when there is fat and protein in the duodenum
